Freighter to Freighter Combat how???
The Update said that i can finally have epic Spacebattles and use my fleet to terrify the galaxy.
But how does it work? I still cant summon my freighter when there is a NPC Fleet arround? And how do i oder them to attack?

They're not all that "epic" and "terrifying the galaxy" is... hysterical, but you trigger them by jumping into pirate or high-conflict systems.

That is not what the update says.

In the darkness of deep space, fearsome Pirate Dreadnoughts cruise between the stars and terrorise merchant fleets. Confront them to rescue the civilians from certain death!

Even the odds against outlaw Dreadnoughts by swooping directly into their superstructure! Utilise all the precision and agility of your starship to strike at the vulnerable core of these huge, hulking capital ships.

Realise your raiding ambitions with explosive space combat. All capital ships – from outlaw dreadnoughts to merchant freighters – can now be reduced to stardust, allowing piratical pilots to earn additional scrap after looting each and every cargo pod. A brand-new combat HUD tracks the hull integrity of large vessels, allowing starship pilots to plan their attacks with precision.

----------------------------

You can attack the pirate dreadnaught with your personal ship while it attacks an NPC freighter and you can blow up NPC freighters. You can not attack enemy freighters with your freighter.

Well that's a bit disappointing

True, but it is a small step towards proper fleet battles. Whether or not they take the next step is yet to be seen.

These pirate freighters, are they own-able?

it's a shame you couldnt do freighter battles between players in multiplayer

With no way to prevent savegame freighter edits, i do not think this would be feasible. However i do not think that is in the dream of the game's vision. There are other games that do this really well. Eve Online, X4 foundations (if you assume carriers to be freighters) etc.

If one game has all the features one can experience in space, there will be no need to even buy other games. Similarly, if iPhone has everything that one needs as well as all the best business practices and best customer service and phone aesthetic design with variety and excellent software, why would anyone even by a samsung?

Sadly the pirate freighter attack is a set piece, a random encounter... It's not an actual ship.

Not strictly from in-game mechanisms. However, save-game editors can edit in a pirate dreadnought to be your own freighter. There is a distinct disadvantage to doing this though: You cannot land in a pirate dreadnought. The only real benefit to having a pirate dreadnought as your own freighter is the weaponry it carries; if someone/something attacked you, the dreadnought would put up a better fight than a normal freighter. NOT worth it, in a game where you can make your Starship nearly invincible.

The pirate freighters are not available to players yet. But very likely something similar probably in future content.

But the new radical looking Pirate frigates can be yours if they survive the battle after the destruction of their commanding freighter. So you will need a space in your fleet to add those new frigates to your expanding and diverse fleet.

Here's an extract of the patch notes :

  • Pirate Dreadnought capital ships can now be encountered while exploring the galaxy, particularly within outlaw and high-conflict systems. These huge vessels prey upon civilian fleets with a range of unique technology. Defeat them to earn significant bounty payments and large standing gains with the local lifeforms.
  • Dreadnoughts lay siege to civilian freighters with colossal heat cannons, blasting high-powered lasers over long distances. Destroying these cannons offers a way to protect the vulnerable merchants.
  • Bounty payments are significantly reduced in the event of the destruction of the civilian fleet.

  • Dreadnoughts come equipped with power deflector shields, preventing hull damage from conventional starship weapons.
  • Fly beneath Dreadnought shields and into their superstructure to target their shield generators, exposing both their hull and the delicate exposed fuel systems beneath.
  • Unique frigates form a supporting pirate battle group. These powerful ships deploy torpedoes that have the potential to wreak havoc upon the civilian fleet, and must be intercepted as a matter of priority.
  • Dealing enough damage to the Dreadnought will force it to flee. Disabling its power warp engines will prevent escape and allow you to land the killing blow.

    OUTLAW FRIGATES

  • A new class of outlaw frigate now accompanies pirate capital ships into battle.
  • Destroying these vessels will significantly reduce the damage output of the outlaw fleet, as they are responsible for launching devastating torpedoes at opposing capital ships.
  • Once their commanding vessel has been destroyed, many frigates will surrender and offer to join your own fleet.
  • Recruit these survivors as a powerful new class of combat frigate, ready to undertake missions from your own freighter.

    VOYAGERS EXPEDITION

  • A brand new expedition, “Voyagers” will begin shortly after the release of the Echoes update.
  • The Voyagers expedition will see players seeking the deepest oceans, tallest mountains, most idyllic planets and strangest alien creatures, and much more besides.
  • Rewards for this voyage of discovery include a set of unique posters; an exclusive electric jetpack trail; a salvaged accessory for your creature companions; a set of new Autophage-related base parts; and brand-new mechanical companion.

Probably something for the future. Plus the game consoles and player hardware needs to be able to cope with all that complexity. Star Citizen has taken years to develop multiplayer ship boarding and so on and they have a huge team. Hello Games seem to be carefully adding 'place holder' assets in the game, like larger interiors, increased ship sizes, VR all of which could provide content characters and players could run about on. I can't imagine Hello Games have not considered the possibilities of the game and all the procedural advantages in future content. One thing is for sure they have fun doing what they do and well. : D

Perhaps some of us want it here so that finally there is only one game needed. Not everyone has the $ to shell out for those other games.

Contact the Swiss. Maybe they can make one game to rule them all. They did pretty well with the Army Knife.:steamhappy:

You bought the wrong game if you wanted a lot of player ship to ship combat. This game has only recently even scratched the surface of space/on planet combat. And even that is pretty simple by comparison to games that focus on combat as a primary game loop.

This is an exploring game with a lot of sideshows added to it so it is more relevant to a larger portion of the game play world. If you got it for the combat...you did not do adequate research.
