Multitool
Hey guys. Tell me, do multitools differ from each other in something other than appearance and number of cells? And yet, what weapon is better to choose for a multitool?

There are a few combinations, but I would advise for you to try them all and decides which ones you like the best.

For me are: Blaze Javelin / Scatter Blaster / Paralysis Mortar.

Yes. If you want a better weapon, choose a rifle type as those get a bonus to damage.

Prior to some of the recent challenge improvements, the different weapon types were more show than go. The Bolt Caster was usually my choice.

Now, there are some advantages/disadvantages for different weapons. The Scatter Blaster (Shot Gun) is my favorite currently but it is most effective at close range. If you prefer sniping you would need to look at some of the other weapons that might provide better damage at range.

I tend to like the get the party over early and the Scatter Blaster, along my my pal, the Minotaur AI, seems to be a good combination for quick fights. There are some advantages to quick ends because the sentinels will keep calling in reinforcements. I hate those repair bots.

I also used to like this weapon, but alas, it is too dangerous. Its effective range is short, which is why in 99% of cases the guards manage to hit very hard (I'm talking about survival mode), perhaps in standard mode this is a good weapon, but definitely not for survival.

I have 3 standard multitools nowadays. One for every day use with things like a terrain manipulator, survey device, and my best scanner upgrades in it, one made specifically for use on derelict freighters with a mining beam and a pulse spitter, and since the sentinel update, one for open combat situations with a blaze javelin installed for stunning. The other 3 I generally use for different combinations and weapon expiramentation. I currently am using one with a neutron cannon in it for sentinel depots. This one tickled me a little when I put 2 and 2 together. You can take out all 5 containers at a depot with a single shot.

Now that you can package your upgrades you don't need a lot of them to build a nice multitool, so my recommendation is to keep your first one basic(mining beam, scanner, boltcaster, etc...) until you figure out what weapon you like best, then worry about the optimal build.

Multi-tools can be expanded and upgraded, in that respect, their onscreen appearance is cosmetic; some may have super-charged slots, some may start with more tech slots, but they all can pretty much level up to a powerful and adequate weapon. I got lucky, got an S Class Multi-tool early in my adventure, and have expanded it a lot so that it has all the weapons and plenty of tech slots for support and boosters.

to lordoftheapes, "I have 3 standard multitools nowadays." I've kept mine so long, when I first got it, you could only have 1 MT! How/where what's the mechanism for storing the other 2? Thanks!

Alien/exotic and sentinel multi tools have better damage buffs than riffles.

Higher class multi tools will have more supercharged slots are which more useful than the tools stats. A class S tool with a nice grouping of super charged slots will give the highest damage output even if the base stats are not very good.

I like the Blaze Javelin for sniper fire. For run and gun I like pulse splitter and scatter blaster with plasma launcher.

I mean, it sounds like you have no idea you can have 6 now. It's in your quick menu(on foot).

On my original character I have a 23 slot A class multitool I got from a mission I did for a random Vy'keen 2 hours into playing lol. I've been playing since Pathfinder :D

The supercharge slots mean it makes sense to have a different multitool for each function: scanning, mining, weapon(1), weapon(2), etc

yes and no. I mean, there's never a good enough reason to put your mining beam in a supercharged slot imo. And some weapons are best used circumstantially, such as the blaze javelin, where the primary value to it is stunning, which doesn't benefit from a supercharged effect. But all weapons obviously do more damage when they're used and scanners can get you more cash and an enormous range.

Bonus goes by type - rifle is best, sentinel is best, class- s is best, super charged slot placement. For max damage - sentinel rifle upgrade to s-class and all 4 slots connected in a square. Then put your favorite weapon with all three x-class that are above s-class upgrades in those slots with the weapon and that is your dream multi-tool.

I have a mining MT for harvesting runaway mold:
+Mining Speed: increases Mining Beam damage against minerals and flora.
+Heat Dispersion: decreases the rate the Mining Beam generates heat.
+Fuel Efficiency: decreases charge drain rate.
+Overheat Downtime: decreases the cool-down rate of the Mining Beam
+Optical drill +88% resources

Its makes short work of the 25 balls I pop per session. That's more useful to me than scanning because I don't really need the extra credits after I have other sources setup.

oh, yeah, I get that, just my opinion. I generally use an exocraft to harvest runaway mold as it's way faster than any fully upgraded multitool, tho you don't get as many resources. I usually build my minotaur platform facing the mold so I can just hop in, mine it and leave.
