Potential new player, some questions
Heya, so ive been eye balling no mans sky for a bit now, and was wondering some stuff...

how well does it run on the steam deck nowadays?
how important is aiming in this game? for example, i mostly played fps games on my pc with mouse, because my aim has always been pretty bad on controllers...
however the steam deck helps with aiming a little so that wouldnt be too big of a worry for me to be fair...

would you guys say this game is more hectic/stressfull or can it be a pretty chill experience to whind down after a long day at work?

apreciate all the help !

can't speak on the steam deck
but the game is not an action fps type game so it is pretty chill, in fact although the combat has improved it's almost completely optional how much you dive into it (you can avoid or run away from combat without penalty or missing out on anything)

PS. if you decide to jump in, make sure to get it while it's on sale...i don't think you'll regret the purchase

cheers for the quick reply, have you played it on a controller yet ? i know its not a deck comparsion, but more so a general idea of how easy or complex the controls are?

the sale part yeah... i think i just missed one aswell didnt i? gonna take a look arround and see if i can maybe find it a little cheaper somewhere

i use both kb+mouse and an xbox controller
i find movement and flying easier with the controller, but aiming (when movement is not important) easier using the mouse, the keyboard is mainly for the quick menu keybindings

the next sale shouldn't be too long away

quick menu bindings as in 1 - 9 slots for items?
thats where im happy with the deck, i could alternatively use the touchpads for aiming, or even gyro. but while playing docked in a different room i would also use a xbox controller like you do in some cases.

cheers for all the info =)

@DoKo_O you are probably aware, but the game is always 50%, wait a bit before buying. But it will be worth your money , pretty cool game. Even better if you enjoy base building, i think of it quite relaxing.

yeah not quite, the quick menu options which requires navigation to use can be bound to quick keys (using CTRL+number) so you can use 0-9 for easy access
anyways you're welcome ...maybe see you soon traveller

If you do find you enjoy the game - aside from little things that can really irritate (no sorting of inventories for example) - you can run for tens, hundreds of hours without setting it on your 'do not play anymore' list. I do advise you search for how to back up the game here on Steam though... the recent changes to the save process can sometimes really bite you in your backside.

Now go forth and enjoy.

I can't speak towards the Steam Deck issues.

Hectic/chill: Its mostly chill. At the beginning it can be a bit stressful as you secure your survival. Once you achieve the basics of survival, chill settles in.

thats great to hear! i dont mind a little hectic stuff here and there, so this sounds just right!

also wasnt really talking about issues for the deck, rather general performance and impressions nowadays =)

thx everyone!

I'm a new player, myself. I bought the game about two weeks ago when it was 50% off. Generally speaking I don't like combat much because I'm not good at it and it stresses me out, at that's not what I'm looking for when I decide to play a game. But, I don't mind the combat in the game at all, especially not the ship-to-ship kind. In fact, I find I rather enjoy blasting pirates out of the sky and getting the loot from it. :)

One of the things I really like about this game is that there are a bunch of settings that you can use to make the game the experience you're looking for. Do you want to just relax and explore planets? Then play in relaxed mode. No combat to speak of, reduced survival requirements, etc. Or even more relaxed is creative mode, meant for people who like to build stuff without having to deal with gathering materials, etc. Or there is the custom mode, where you can manually set your preferences for many different aspects of the game.

Me, I have a "relaxed" save where I just explore and very loosely follow quests and stuff. It's what I used to learn how to play the game. Then I have a "standard" save where things are a bit harder, which I started after I got the basic mechanics down. When I get better at everything, maybe I'll move it all up a notch. Or not. But I like that there's that freedom.

When the update came out in January, I could not use my Steam Deck at all for the new expedition, they fixed that in about two weeks. I play on my Deck a lot, but have it hooked up to an external monitor and use an Xbox controller (big issue with these though as you need to update it and if you don't have an Xbox that means using a Windows computer). It is definitely slower than my PC which is a very good machine, but it is still fun to play on my Deck.

i mean its not a huge issue to update the controller to the newest firmware, thats my setup aswell if im not in my living room.

my pc is fairly old, gtx 1070 and ryzen 5 2600 with 16gigs of ram at 3000mhz i believe, it almost feels like theres no difference between my pc and my deck, which i dont mind :D

works flawless for me so far on steam deck, enjoying it so far, but im kinda stuck currently where i have to find clues or rare materials :D paused playing yesterday because it got late, will dive into it later again.

and jeeeeesus this game EATS time. i blinked and 4 hours were gone by lol

Steam Deck, performance wise, is the same with any other PC with similar specs, but with
The controller is okay, having better support on Steam client. But among FPS/TPS I have ever played, NMS has the worst camera aiming movements so far, even using mouse. The words of VR having better camera now intrigues me.
Don't expect much from the FPS/TPS aspect of NMS but the game is still enjoyable, until HG pushs some controversial update again. But based on the frequency of what happened in the past, it won't happen anytime soon. We are safe.
