Having played since the start, I kind of like the funky way the ship and MT scanner systems work. Both are unreliable, but just reliable enough to get things done. I think the game would lose some interest for me if either was really hyper accurate.
I already fly low and slow for most of my POI needs. Never use the maps unless it is required by a mission.
Remember back in the first year of the game when it could be near impossible to get a scan. You actually had to keep following the fauna until the scan process was done. I had to shoot my share of birds just so I can get them to stand still long enough to achieve the scan.
Now it is pretty much a piece of cake. I could see how that auto scan feature could be helpful for some folks...maybe me one day.
However, there are times it annoys me by trying to scan stuff I'm not ready to scan yet and want to do later. During those times I switch it back to manual. But for everything else, auto-scan is great.
If they fix that issue and make it work similarly, to the regular hold-mode scan, then I think it would be awesome.
