The key difference between SC and NMS is that SC doesn't care about actually getting a functional, finished game to their players. THey only care about what can make them more money, which means they devote resources to the type of "ooo, wow" feature that gets attention, and therefore money. That doesn't help with longevity or actually having gameplay though, but that's not their priority.
As someone who already paid for NMS, I prefer if they keep their focus where it has been.
Besides, most of the ships in NMS are just 'cockpit' ships. There is no interior to walk about in in the first place.
SC. I agree, its just a joke. BUT RSI have made a ridiculous amount of money just off "ships, and interiors.
But forgetting SC.
If HG add the ability to interact with the inside in some way.
Whether sitting, lying. chilling,
Single player, or with a friend.
Or even some minor crafting.
maybe a gun emplacement, turret, <-again for MP.
Or even storage in the ship, but that you can walk up to.
There is so much they could do with ship interiors.
Go have a look at ANY of the StarField trailers, they place a large emphasis on showing you walking through your space ship.
It gives the feeling of actually being there on your own flying, voyaging, exploring "home away from home."
Even if its only a small to mid size ship.
Just appearing inside your cockpit, misses so much of watching the stairs, ramp, whatever open, and you walking climbing inside.
And seeing where you "live" exist for hours days, while travelling through space.
But for many, just the immersion alone, would bring even more depth.
It could be done, but it would be a year or more worth of work.
It would be really nice to have the ability to explore starship interiors, but the size of the ships here are quite small. I doubt they're really all that furnished inside. Feels like that's what freighters are for.
It sounds like a feature looking for a reason or assumed reasons that would be developed to make it have any reason to exist.
No matter how they went at it, it would actually involve a lot of complications. Do they resize every landing pad and locations (and break every base landing pad in the game) to allow them to land in stations, anomaly, etc.
Are they space only- so you have to get back in another ship if you want to land somewhere...sounds tedious to me. Edit: Also sounds exactly like your freighter.
The whole save thing and keeping that process safe and reliable seems problematic when players still occasionally report falling through freighters.
I guess I am not seeing a lot of upside without massive work to make it have a reason to exist.
Concisely put.
Indeed I don't hate the idea, but the bang for buck factor seems low.
It really wouldn't.
The ghost in Star wars rebels, is quite small.
The Mantis in Star Wars the fallen order again is quite small. with 2 bed rooms, an engine. small lounge, an cockpit.
The Razor crest is even smaller.
And again. mentioning SC. Not for the "game" it is, or rather is not.
But they have many many ships the same size as some of the larger "star ships." you already pilot in NMS, not the massive frigates.
And some in SC, like the Aurora literally just have a bunk. But they still have an interior, and not just "instant cockpit."
That new ship shown on the Interceptor trailer, is easily big enough to have an interior.
Timestamped.

And some of the "flyable " random ships already in game, are even bigger, "bulky wise" and are like small buses, and they are already in game.
Just an entry ramp, maybe a small galley, bunk, etc.
This "again" would be immensely more satisfying than just appearing in the cockpit.
But yes if Hello introduced a slightly larger "explorer class" ship. when we could put furniture from the bases, or small crafting.
This is in Subnautica on the Cyclops.
And even have (as said above) room for, and items turret, etc, a MP experience.
Even though I play solo, it would be a blast for both Sp, and MP.
And as said with StarField, which will be MASSIVE when launched later this year.
They make a huge deal about. "you can build you own ship, including interior.
And that sent people wild.
Because that "immersion factor of actually having a ship (not a cap ship) but the ship you pilot.
That is not just an exterior, and a cockpit.... And the rest you have to imagination.
Ive already gone through a very few of the tonnage of movies shows, and games that have this as a big part of the fun / immersion, and" just cool to exist factor."
Hers really hoping NMS consider this. Its a great game, but this element, is sadly missing.
If they dont, it will just be wait for SF I guess.
