Anyway to edit save to remove permadeath?
I've had my perma death save since the start of perma death as a game mode.. Idk how many years now..

I've got a friend I want play with on that save, but I can't because they aren't on perma death, and I quite honestly have no reason to keep it a perma death mode. (I've done everything and have everything).

I looked up online how to use the save editor program, and changing the "Version" of the game in the Json raw format, but that isn't working, and doesn't seem to work anymore to change the games difficulty setting. (Both my newest Survival mode save, and Perma death have the same numbers that were supposedly 2 years ago supposed to change the difficulty).

So idk what I can do now, as it says I can't join them due to different difficulty settings. Even though their normal, and my survival seem to work just fine.
--------------

Edit: I'm assuming the reason that all other game modes except Perma death can be played together is either
A) because perma death is perma death
or
B) Permadeath isn't even really an "official" game mode anymore, and so the game isn't seeing it as compatible for multiplayer.

I thought there was an option to turn it off... or it turns off when you die. I don't remember, it's been a while since I looked at the options.

nope. It even says in the options "Permadeath: Save is deleted upon death. Can only be chosen at the start of a new game, and cannot be turned off later"

If you tried the editor and it did not work, you might try to use the editor on a new save to give yourself the equivalent of what you have in the PD save. I think you can even bring in specific ship and tool types- but not sure on color schemes.

why? just dont choose survival if ya dont want permadeath. or go to options and turn it off in effect removing the game from survival mode

If you'd read the replies, you'd see that they are trying to downgrade an extant save and that they tried and can't swap off PD on that save.

OP, when I have a chance, I'll dig into the save JSON and see if there's an easy switch to flip with the editor.

Yes, you can change it with the save editor. You have to go into Raw JSON edit mode, then change the values for death penalty in the "DifficultyState" section. Just changing the version number is not sufficient any more since the Waypoint update.

Edit to add: The safest route is just to make a new game with exactly the settings you want, then copy over the entire "DifficultyState" section of the save file from the new one over to your Permadeath save (ovewriting what's already there). Also change the version number to "4654".
You can then delete that new game, obvi.

Doesn't that just defeat the point of permadeath?

He did say he has no reason to keep it permadeath any longer.

Then start a new save file?

It really would help to actually read the post, so people don't have to waste time on you.

I don't see "Difficulty state" in anything in the Json. It was the firs thing I looked for after the version number.

It's near the very top of the save file. Open the Raw JSON, expand the PlayerStateData category (which is the section where most everything you would ever want to edit is), and "DifficultyState" is right near the top. As shown in this screenshot:

How do i reroll my stats in real life? My question is more interesting then the op.

Just go in to difficulty settings and turn off delete upon death. There are other settings that effect difficulty as well. There is no need to screw with editing save files.

You can't, that is a setting that once selected cannot be turned off.
Which he already explained earlier in the thread.

It's not the only setting like that. You also cannot change the stack size setting in the 'easier' (i.e. higher stack size) direction.
