Be advised, when you find a crashed ship WITH a pilot, you don't get to keep the ship. And you can't kill the pilot and just take it. Just thought I'd mention it, if it's the ship you're after. You get some minor reward if you help him, and then he'll fly away in his now-fixed ship.
If the pilot is the one telling you he'll talk to you more if you fix his ship, that usually only happens if he already told you what was needed. If that's not the case, maybe you found a glitchy crashed ship with pilot. In which case, just move on. It's not worth trying to trouble shoot it.
Walk away and continue on playing the game... at the very MOST you will improve your standing with whatever race the pilot is (Gek, Korvax or Vy'keen) and maybe they will give you a trinket.
More info: Standings with races can be rapidly improved should you need to during an upcoming story mission... so I say walk away.
What!! And leave the poor dear (insert race here) stranded? their traveller soul will follow and haunt you the rest of your space-faring days. Every time you look over your shoulder you will see a grave marker.
Very respectful of you sir, after all....
Vast universe calls,
No Man's Sky endless expanse,
Dreams among the stars.
PS I didn't spell it wrong, blame Hello Games.. since day one it's that "UK" English... or the very first guy that typed out that word in the game held down the "L" key too long and there you have it, the official (mis)spelling of Traveller
PPS How many of you guys have added "Traveller", traveller" to your custom dictionary so you get rid of that damn red squiggle underline???
Both are right just depends where you're located.
Explanation: US style is a single l on travel when a suffix is added. UK style is to double the l.
