A question.
New player here. Playing solo for the moment.

I discovered a wreck ship on the planer I'm stuck on. I'm pretty sure I claimed it.

So now what? I found several doors jammed shut with no way to open them. Reading on line it seemed I could go to a space station and salvage it. That doesn't seem to work.

So is it just scenery, or can I actually do something with it?

Thanks in advance.

To go to a space station, you need to fly there in your ship. And if you started with tutorials enabled, it won't show the marker until you get to the part of the tutorial-story where it wants you to see it.

What that means is you have to repair at least the thrusters and engine of the ship to fly it there.

Regarding the doors you are talking about, without more information, I'm not sure what you're even talking about. A screenshot would go a long way toward explaining.

The only ship on planet you can claim and scrap are fixed the same you you fix the first ship.

You interact with it, jump in and fix the two needed systems to make it fly.

You can then fly it the space station and scrap it.

If you have a freighter then they will appear on it when you summon the freighter or load into game.
When you say doors jammed shut do you mean a wrecked freighter? If so you can only salvage crates that are buried within it, you can see these with your scanner. the jammed doors can be opened with your mining laser. After you do that it's just scenery.

If it's a small ship like the one you started with that you can enter then it's just like any regular ship that can be claimed.

I was thinking wrecked freighter, too, except that you said that you claimed it? You can't claim wrecked freighters, so....?

But if it is a wrecked freighter, then there are 6 cargo pods you can open for loot. Two of them are behind "damaged panels" which you can shoot open with a weapon or just punch open using the "Q" key (On a keyboard; I don't play games on consoles or with a controller, so I don't know how you do melee on controllers.) The others are buried and you can find them with the analysis visor and then dig for them if you have the Terrain Manipulator. If you don't have the TM, you'll only be able to get at the two behind the damaged panels.

Ah. Thanks all.

R1/RB I never thought to melee the doors. They go down in 1 hit?

It takes two hits, but to me it's better than wasting ammo/carbon by using the multitool.

Technically, you can melee down the doors on a manufacturing facility, too, but there you'll be hounded by sentinels. I've done it, though, just to see if I could. LOL

Yeah, I used to be like that, but then I realized how much carbon I ended up with by micromanaging my usage and decided it wasn't worth it. And I constantly have to sell ammo. You get way more than you need from derelict freighters.

Eventually, yeah. You get a lot of ammo from cargo drops, too, if you open every box you come across. But at the beginning of a save, you might not have so much.

Ultimately, I guess I just enjoy beating up doors. LOL

oh yeah, I'm grateful for those habits at the beginning of a new file for sure. I definitely open every box in a derelict freighter, planetside, not so much. Personally, I get brainlocked into doing too much and I found worrying about carbon was pointless since I can just toss some in a refiner with O2 and get thousands back. Those 3 carbon I saved by not blasting the door down seemed like it was more work to simply think about it than do it lol

Sounds like you have some anger management issues there :p :nmsvykeen:

I think it's more that I'm a latent hoarder. LOL I have to collect all the things, and I don't want to give any of it away! On the other hand, at least at the moment, I'm mostly into just exploring, and I usually travel very lightly, just me and my ship and a very makeshift base that mostly exists as a place to put storage containers. So, it's a battle to NOT collect all the things because I only have so much space. So, I vent my frustration on doors. ;)

So…

I had bought some maps, wondered what they did and found out. That was useful.

Is it possible to break into manufacturing facilities? Or is their only purpose to turn out sentinels?

On my way to one of the points on the maps I bought I flew over the wreck I mentioned. It was one of those huge wrecks half-buried in the ground. I bashed open the doors, opened the cargo pods inside, and got out as soon as what was inside was in my inventory. Thanks to the advice here I also found the buried cargo pods,

Question? Can I email pictures I took to someone not playing No Man's Sky nor on Steam? I took some pics of the more interesting life on one planet and would like to show it to my wife.

Thanks in advance,

Breaking into a manufacturing facility will summon sentinels. They can be fought off but if you're new to the game I would recommend you don't. Place a base there instead and come back to it when you're ready for a firefight.

Technically, you can bash your way into manufacturing facilities. The problem is that for every few bashes you do, you'll attract the attention of the sentinels. You then run far away until they stop looking for you and to let any damage you might have taken heal. Then you come back and bash some more. Repeat ad nauseum.

I did this, once, basically just to see if I could. Took about 20 minutes of real time to do. I don't recommend it. What you really should do is wait until you have a projectile weapon installed on your multi-tool. The first one is the Boltcaster, which I think you can install from the get-go, but it requires chromatic metal, which you refine from copper. Then you'll need bullets for it, which you can mostly find in the little red boxes in cargo drops. Or you can make them, but I don't remember if you can do that from the get-go.

Oh! Also, once you open the door, by whatever method, the sentinels can't "see" you anymore when you're inside the building, even if they follow you inside. Once you're inside, you're safe, and you can leave when you're done without having to fight anyone. So, if you have a projectile weapon, you don't really need to worry about the sentinels at all.

You can. You just need to find the folder where Steam puts them. The file path is:
Program Files - Steam - userdata - 1271024826 - 760 - remote - 275850 - screenshots

Whew! Then find the pic(s) you want to email.
