Is NMS Worth it in 2023?
I gave it a go at launch and refunded it, but I hear through the grapevine that the game is a completely different experience than when it was originally launched.

So, any long-time players have any insight on this? If you have only played recently, you can chime in, too.

Depends on why you refunded the game before. In many ways it's better, in many ways it's still the same game.

It's almost an entirely different game to what it was when it launched. I think if I was going to buy it now, I would still wait and get it on offer though.

It's 50% off on GoG, which is why I'm asking. At least if I try it there, the refund policy is 30 days so I'll have time to goof around with it.

How is it different?

I honestly can't remember specifically, that was back in 2016. I just remember getting bored.

No way should you pay full price for this game. If you're going to blow $60 on a game, get Starfield. Not only does it have exploration, but a much better story. Granted, you'll need better hardware than NMS, and you won't be able to play Starfiled on Linux like you can with NMS.

I'd only buy NMS if you have a VR rig, that's it. Otherwise, get it for at least 70% off.

If you like Resource Gathering and Base Building, yes. It is worth it.
If you need it to be like game X or Y to be able to enjoy it, then no.
Currently in the Starfield forum are some idiots who say it is bad because feature X is not done like in game Y. .... If you are like that... no. Not your game.

Starfield is not for me and doesn't interest me in the slightest. Only reason I'm asking about NMS is some YT popped up in my recommended saying it's like a completely different game and that piqued my interest.

I've only been playing since April, but this video happened to be in my YouTube recommendations last night, and I watched it:

I think it gives a fairly fair before vs. now comparison of the game. I'm biased because the game is right up my weird alley, but I can't say if it'll be worth it to you. We're all different.

It has had a TON of free content updates. But the gameplay is still find planet > mine > upgrade > move on at its core. There's just a lot of things to find now. If you have a 50% discount and a 30 day refund policy then there's no reason not to try it. It's definitely worth it at that price

I saw mention of custom game modes. How extensive are the customization options?

I don't need it to be like another game. I'm looking for a new experience. Starfield doesn't interest me in the slightest, by comparison.

Then that answered your question. Don't get either game.

Hahaha, I started watching that this morning. I had to shut it off due to how obnoxious the narrator was, but it did leave me curious lol

It's definitely not different, but it's a "good" game now.

Considering my last game was Armored Core 6 and everything in Fromsoft's library, I'm sure it will be different, for me!
