Reliable source of starship inventory expansion slots
Anybody knows one?
Originalmente postado por Asmosis:
Ship size (i.e. slots) doesn't matter, only the grade of the ship i.e. C/B/A/S rank matters.

Scrapping a S rank shuttle that bought for 1.4 mil will give you significantly more storage augmentation (and modules) than a 70mil C rank hauler.

Given that you get ~70% of the value back in scrap items, scrapping minimal slot S rank ships only costs 300-500k per ship usually.

If you’re experienced, spending 10s of millions of units is no big deal, and much cheaper than buying the slots.

For example, my go-to source of income is a crafting farm. By which I mean farms and mines that give you the materials to produce high-end items like Stasis Devices and Fusion Igniters. A fairly low-effort setup can net you 200-300 million units every time you bother to harvest materials and craft the items you’re going to sell.

The hardest part of setting these things up is setting up automated mines for each major mineral, uranium, ammonia, dioxite, phosphorous, gold, and silver. This generally means 6 bases on different planets, and a few hours surveying to find mineral hotspots. The farms are no big deal by comparison.

thx 4 advice, but I really hate setting up massive farms, in any game, not just nms. Interceptors might be a better way for me, I'll take a break from that for a while and than maybe come back

Find a dissonant planet. Get an echo locator, and find a camp. Put down a base computer there, and keep reusing the scanner to find new ships .. salvage all the intersceptors, and you will be having alot of inventory modules after a little while ( and way to much units ).
My main playthrough is alos on max harsh PD .. and I have to many units, I don't know what to do with them .. ship is almost maxed out ( atleast as far as I bother to take it )...

As gussmed stated .. farms are great... another thing is trade routes... it can really make you units, so you can buy more ships to scrap..
Set up a huge nip farm in your freighter... lots of units there too..
Yes, I did the interceptor method, tbh drop rate was also minimal, maybe you had better luck, considering you have the same settings

This is very valuable information, I thought that scrapping massive haulers (which cost an obscene amount of units btw...) would give me more expansion slots. Turns out they don't.
Yesterday I spent 130 mil on 2 haulers, got about 40 mil back (cause of settings I guess) and one (ONE!!!) expansion slot.
R.I.P.

Frigate missions just dropped 3 in my inventory today.

That's slow but steady and inexpensive.
Ok, definitely good considering it's really inexpensive. I wonder about the drop rate with sadist difficulty settings (as someone aptly named mine :steammocking:)

If you have about 50-100 mil units and a spare couple of hours you can go to a pirate system space station (pirate systems have 5% for s class to spawn as opposed to 2% at other systems) and sit there and buy any S or A class solars or shuttles, anything except haulers really and scrap them straight away. You will get about 2/3 of the units back and usually 2 slots for S class and 1 for A class. So an S class solar for 6 mil will get you 2 slots and about 4 mil back. It's not fast or exciting but it is fairly reliable. I just chill and watch something while i am sitting in the space station scanning the ships.
Also good advice, I just think that with my settings the return rate for units is 1/3, not 2/3

Also the wheelbarrows of harmonic camps have usually one per camp of either multi-tool or ship expansion slot.
Might have to do with my difficulty settings, but I'm rather sure that was not the case in my playthrough so far (100 hours)

I want to thank collectively all the people that helped me with their input. Now I have lots of ideas. God I love this game's community!:steamhappy:

if you have the units you can buy and scrap ships. you'll get a few this way
I play custom permadeath, with difficulty settings maxed out, higher than standard permadeath.
Doing what you suggested with the settings I have means losing tens of millions of units when selling (i.e. buy for 80 million, sell for 30, LOLZ) and the drop rate of inventory expansion slots doing this method is negligible. That is why I'm looking for a different source.
You don't need to buy ships. Sentinel Interceptors are extremely cheap if you're willing to go planetside in a Dissonant system.

All you really need is to farm a few crystal materials (the inverted mirrors and the radiant shards) and take out the materials from the ship (some pugneum, a sentinel shard and the hylacine brain). After that, you just use the brain, find the nearby monument to fix the brain real quick, and then head back to the ship and fly off. They're always powered up and in fairly decent shape, but make sure you're in a system that has a space station, as the warp core is never fueled.

Maybe there are differences on higher difficulties that make this more difficult, but these ships on lower difficulties are worth about 20 million credits and you'll get some materials back from it.

If you find a Harmonic Camp, you can use that as a quick and easy way to find ships without farming Echo Locators, since if you put a save point at the camp you can just come back each and every time to use the terminal to find a new ship.

EDIT: Ahh I see someone already mentioned this. I've had fair luck with it, but rng is rng.

Btw, does it also happen to you that after 3/4 recovered ships the camp only sends you to empty crash sites?

The numbers vary, but 4 sites per camp is probably about the average.

I haven't thoroughly read all the replies but I also play on "sadist" difficulty settings and find the best way to farm these is with Sentinel Interceptors but ideally with A class salvage.

Use a Sentinel Boundary map to locate a pillar to disable the sentinels on the Dissonant planet (there is a RNG chance that the planet will not have one though, and you may need to fight the 5 waves of normal sentinels to get amnesty).
Then you can farm the Resonators for more Echo maps and mirrors, picking up the free combat supplies as you go (the blue combat supplies from the corrupt quads/spiders also have a chance to drop echo maps).

Once you exhaust a camp, use another echo map for another camp and continue farming.

<snipped for brevity>

Yep, same here. Highest Difficulty settings, and that's how I do it as well, until I get to where I'm so wealthy I can just use the "buy them to scrap" method.

Considering I never set up industrial bases/stasis farms for money (because I just don't enjoy that), it's usually quite a while where that's my method...I don't get rich quickly in my games.

Exotic ships and now interceptors give quite a few so find a system that has them and play a bit of patience (this can include either saving and restarting or in and out of a system) if you don't fancy mining, refining and building.
