Is this game still a grind fest
I played this game when it first released and completed most everything through the first two or so updates. Some of the new content looks great and I feel like I should start over and check it out but I am turned off from trying because the game was so grindy originally and it got very boring.

Start an expedition save. The milestone rewards will level up your character faster than normal game play. Once all milestones are complete it will convert to a normal save.

The grind is the drive that compels to play in a sandbox.... but now if the grind annoy you that much you can just play in creative mod and everything will be free.... you can even switch back and forth specific difficulty settings to makes things easier or even free whenever you feel like it.

btw there's no level up in NMS.... you just learn the blueprints, purchase the modules and craft/install them to improve your stuff and stats.

Well, then turn off the grind. They added options so you can tune the game to your liking.

with a few exceptions (freighter pimping for one) there is no need to grind in NMS, unless that's your playstyle, for anyone else just make some chump change and buy wot you need

Grinding is like blowing up a balloon - the more progress you make the easier it gets - especially once you know the duplication trick.
Not much grind at all, no more than any other game, especially if you know today's game well. A relatively recent update now includes complete customisation of difficulty settings for any way you want to play. It's an incredible game now. There are several game default modes you can always choose from. Modes without grind at all. Probably you are looking for the new Relaxed Mode that would suit what you ask for, otherwise enable various custom difficulty options (and there are many) for what you want.

If you play on an easier difficulty you don;t have to grind much except at the very beginning. You just need enough cash to start making cash and after that you'll be able to buy most of what you need at space stations and the stuff you can't get there are ways to set up mineral and gas extractors that mine it for you while you are off line and biodomes to grow the plants you need for crafting which also grow while you are offline.

i grabbed NMS a few weeks before Expedition 2 first made its appearance... never really found any ""grind"" to it at all... i always play on Normal unless an expedition forces me into another mode like one of them did...

Reasonably well balanced for me. Admitted I didn't like playing the original permadeath mode simply because of the smaller stack sizes but haven't bothered to tweak things so far simply because I play this game to relax.

Well obviously it's not the same game it was 7 years ago. Maybe try it since you own it?!

Start and Expedition. You can also play the game on steroids adjusting the difficulty settings.

Play the current Expedition 10 first if you know the game. That's a must else you will miss the cool rewards and easy game progression.

If the last time you played was at release, then you probably didn't encounter the anomaly. All the crafting and tech recipes are there. After you do the first few steps of the Artemis quest (takes a couple warps), you will encounter it. Reduces the grind significantly. Just stock up on nanites for recipes and tech, and salvaged data for base parts.
