I felt that the expedition was designed for those who are somewhat familiar with the process.
I won't go into detail because it would be a spoiler, but the "promise" was, first, to find a ship.
Second, the expedition does not require that the goals for each phase be accomplished in the order indicated.
Often the rewards for one goal will give you items needed for other goals. So, I urge you to stay calm and look carefully at the rewards.
Don't get too discouraged and have fun.
Every one is like this... I joined later, and my 1st one was just... who designed this? why is it so off putting. Why is there little to no explanation on how it works.
And ya, it took a few people on GameFAQs to tell me about some of features.
It repeats each one, specially when they try teach you something your not use to doing.
I don't use Freighters all that often, so when we got stuck on one... I was lost as hell.
Few of them were easy, cause I had been playing everyday.. so when Dec Rolled around tand they repeated. NMS was so fresh in my head. I fly thru older ones. New ones? ya.. I'm always lost, or going back and forth between "medals" menu trying figure out what to do...
Really wish Quest Log for these was so much better.
Please give me all the rewards and complete my phases as you have botched this expedition. It makes absolutely no sense to be broke, unable to farm a resource because of the lack of advanced mining tool. Can't afford Wiring Tools and I'm left stuck having to grind. This is not how expeditions worked.
I quit!
Almost like we are playing different games....or have different expectations?
NMS is never going to lead you by the nose thru the story. I know that approach is popular, but it is not how things are done in this game.
It is okay to want that and not like a game that doesn't do that. Realize that some of us like not having a tether on our necks tugging us along. " good doggies!"
I mean expeditions are exactly that, follow the trail go to 5 rendez vous, the end enjoy cosmetic things.
Op is complaining about the lack of information for getting items as a new player, and it's true that in that case the procedure is open google tab get random unexciting item open new google tab repeat.
In short, as a new player expeditions are a list of google tabs to open, as an experienced player expeditions are 5 warp jumps. In both cases, they really really suck
you will get the advanced mining laser early in the expedition to complete the radiant shard task in the third phase. I run through this expedition two times now and have no issues to complete everything needed.
If you've quit NMS, why do you want the rewards? Not like they are any use to you outside the game.
Burn-out, either temp or perm? ...don't fight it, put NMS aside and check back later (Lol, unless you HAVE to have the expd rewards - in which case it's being speedrun in under 1hr game time at present)
a valid opinion ...but i'd disagree
my advice to any new player taking on an expedition wouldn't be google, instead treat the milestones like breadcrumbs...
1) set a milestone
2) read the log entry for that milestone
3) read the hints for that milestone (bottom right main screen)
4) do wot 2 and 3 told you to do
5) accept reward for milestone
6) set next milestone and loop back to 2
the above won't be efficient or fast but for new players you won't get confused or lost AND you will complete the expedition
Lol, some maybe ...i long for more like expedition 7 (the survival rogue-like mash-up one)
to me expeditions are like 'little holidays' away from the 'normal' NMS, i treat them like simple puzzles where the challenge isn't completing the expeditions ...but finding different ways to complete them ...and getting distracted along the way Lol
maybe you're just burned-out as far as NMS goes ...cos if you're not having fun doing expeditions or playing NMS in general, why not just take a break from it?
I found E9 incredibly tedious, especially trying to do anything on the two planets that had impossibly steep terrain. I gritted my teeth and got through it, and enjoyed the return to regular gameplay.
I take breaks from playing any game and i occasionally have fun in NMS, however I never had any fun completing expedition milestones. They're just boring generic tasks that bring nothing new to the game.
My "favorite" expedition run was possibly the first one. Since I was really new i learned most of the mechanics there and it was my main save so the expedition thing didn't matter much at all.
The core of the problem that I see is a failure to read. I don't mean to say this in a mean way, but most of the process holds your hand along the way, as long as you actually read the quest.
The only time I have had issues is when I do not read the quest as I am going along...but this is an issue in EVERY game, not even remotely isolated to NMS.
1. Go getta cup of whatever and read, in order, the total expedition log, all of it. Think about what you are reading. Notice the progression.
2. Go back and read your first quest. Don't overthink it, don't start to dither and get mad. Just do what you are told. Finish that chore, pick up your rewards. Read quest 2.
3. Move forward in this totally linear pattern. Every hour stop, walk away from the computer and regain your sense of balance. When you are tired go do something else. Go take a walk.
4. If you really can't break through then just stop, delete that character and plan to maybe come back and try it again when you have played the game longer, or maybe never at all.
5. It's a game & should be fun. If it's not, do something else. Doesn't mean you are bad or the game is bad, just a poor fit atm.
