You just need programs that unpak the game pak files and then to decompile the MBIN's into the EXML files. After that, all that is needed is a simple text editor.

My recommendations for these would be:

PS Arc Tool[www.nexusmods.com] or NMS Modding Station[www.nexusmods.com] for unpaking the pak files.
MBIN Compiler[github.com] For decompiling and compiling the MBIN's.

And whatever your preferred text editor is for making the actual changes. I use Notepad++[notepad-plus-plus.org]

If you know how to write lua, Amumss[github.com] is a good resource, as it simplies the process expnentially and avoids the need for either of the aforementioned tools. This is my personal preference.

If you know C#, NMS Mod Builder[github.com] is also an option.

Other various tool recommendations are available here.[stepmodifications.org]

Also for extensive changes to the visual files you might need Blender and the plug-in for NMS

Yep, and the link for that (and other tools for audio and 3d assets, and more) are at the last link I provided.

Wonder if we will ever see the VW Colossus mod released to the public. :steamhappy:
