If you want to control the displayed ships for RP reasons, you can do it, it is just tedious. You would jump into a ship you don't want, jump out, then switch your primary from the X menu to one you do want to display, then repeat for any other ships you want to banish.
The remaining six arrival/departure pads are randomly replaced once the number of ships in your possession exceeds seven.
In other words, unless you have absolutely no interest in having a variety of ships, you cannot fix a ship in your hangar.
The answer is that you have "practically no choice."
Second easiest solution (on pc), use a mod that makes 9 of your ships instead of 6 be on the freighter, and don't have more than 9 ships.
The "X menu" he mentions is the Quick menu, summon ship function. It absolutely is available on console, seeing as you can't really play the game without the quick menu. This is only a short-term solution for getting the ships you want on the freighter "now". It will just revert to a random shuffle again upon exiting.
I'm on the PC, so I am speaking of the menu that opens on the PC when you press X ( the one that lets you switch multi-tool, summon the anomaly, and so on).
I agree about the slotting mechanism. I'd be so happy to get "designated parking" on my freighter.
I actually like having more visiting ships, personally, so I also would like it to be setup so that you can designate as few or as many of the pads on the freighter for your own ships as you desire, and any that you do not assign would be used by NPC's. That way all players can choose from as few as only having 1 of their own ships to having all 9 pads be their own ships.
I actually use a mod so that only my one, active, ship is parked in my freighter and the other 8 pads all get used by NPC's.
None allow "designated" parking. Because the game itself isn't set up to support that.
The mod I use just changes the number of player ships that will be parked in the freighter, so that all other pads get used by NPC's. Which pad my ship is actually on is pretty consistent, but it's not set-it-stone.
Lyravega's mods are all excellent, because of the customizability of the options and how they are set up. But they require a bit of work on the user-end because of that.
