If you have an item that needs crystal sulphide (exocraft items/underwater base components), try to pin those and see if it'll do something. I'll see if I can pull something on my end, but it's worth a try on your end as well.
ETA: I chose a bad one for this attempt... an item for an exocraft I don't have yet, lol. That'll make it awkward. Will keep trying.
All the controls are for the PC, so controller or VR might be different. The save I used was a former expedition save that had converted to normal after finishing, but I don't think that would affect anything. If it works the same as finding Radiant Shards and Inverted Mirrors did when I actually used the "repair a crashed interceptor" mission, it will give you a direction scanner in your analysis visor the same way the dreaded "approximate location" thing works, and then when you are close enough (1000u or so) it will give you the exact distance. Once you get that, you should be able to switch to the normal scanner mode, find the icon, and tag it to get an easy-to-follow marker.
I should mention I spent several hours looking for a water world. There are apparently none around me. Which, again, is why being unable to pin the thing it tells you to pin is annoying. If you could pin it, it would locate the nearest suitable world for you, too.
The starter planet on the Expedition is a water world.
no need to pin it (which btw you can do in the catalog), it is a commonly found product as stated above found in any large-ish, deep-ish body of water (so large ponds, lakes etc.) will have them and the blue icon for them is easily seen by using your visor underwater
