Report a translation problem
Sorry, I was at work. I just tried disabling my antivirus and attempting the update, but it still didn't fix. Just stuck in a validating and patching loop. When patching, it shows it as 99% done with 12.9gb/12.9gb installed. There's also no disk usage being shown.
AFAIK NMS doesn't use openGL any more... it switched to Vulkan several years ago...
maybe report the issue to the HG zendesk??

Which OS and which GPU ?
You may have a look into your windows Event Viewer for more Info about that crash.
WINKey+R opens RUN, here type eventvwr.exe
Here expand Windows Logs and look under Application for warnings with a Timestamp of that crash.
Copy&Paste the details here, so we can check it
If this one shows only AppHang with unknown Reason, check the Events below of this one
