Can't find storm crystals
I've found a planet with Activated Copper which implies it's an extreme weather planet according to google/reddit, I land on the planet and there are in fact "extreme storms" of the fire variety every few minutes, but during the storms I'm not seeing any storm crystals no matter how far and wide I search

Supposedly they'll have their own yellow thunderbolt shaped icon when looking through the analysis visor similar to other rare materials. Are storm crystals not guaranteed to spawn on these planets? The weather in the discovery log is listed as "broiling humidity" and when I land on the surface of the planet it's listed in red, if that matters at all. Please help :l

Activated Solar Metals (copper/cadmium/etc) are found on EXTREME HAZARD planets. That's full-tilt, always-on hazard. When storms occur, they can be just standard storms but they do enhanced damage from the extreme baseline.

Storm Crystals are found on EXTREME STORM planets. The atmo is usually normal hazard, and then the storms drain your life support and overshields really really fast.

Apart from showing up in the visor, Storm Crystals are big oblong-shaped stones which can't be harvested unless there's a storm on. You'll know if and when you find Storm Crystals.

Storm crystals are not guaranteed. Broiling humidity sounds like an extreme lush world. These and extreme deserts do not have storm crystals. You need to be on an extreme cold, hot, toxic, or radiation planet.
There is variation in extreme status. while activated ressource are in all extreme planets, the storm cristal are only on planet that are extreme in Normal condition, with ofc extreme storm.

oooh, so if im on the correct planet type it will be extreme weather at all times and then storms will be when they actually spawn?

Correct.

They can't be harvested until a storm starts but you can see the crystal through the cracks in the rocks encasing them.
Thanks for the help everyone <3
mining di-hydrogen may net you crystal shards(?) that have a chance of turning into storm crystals when examined in your inventory.

best thing i've gotten from those is irridesite (or however it's spelt) and i've gotten ALOT of them lol, probably be faster just to find a planet, thank you though :)
Mine from the ship, with decent weapons it's really quick and you'll generally get a few storm crystals. I also prefer to find a planet with them but there's never one around when you want one ;)
Finding storm crystals from other means is a poor substitute for finding a planet with extreme weather that has farmable storm crystal crops. It's orders of magnitudes faster to gather them directly.

Well, sure, but if you can't find a planet that has crystals, you're not going to be doing much farming. :)

I was coming here to talk about storm getting crystals via crystal fragments when you shoot up dihydrogen crystals, too. I usually get at least two on every planet I explore, if I shoot up dihydrogen. Don't know why the OP wants storm crystals, but if they want to turn them into warp hypercores rather than selling them for money, then you don't need that many unless you need a thousand hypercores for some reason.

If I need a few hypercoares to get to the center I like to do my gathering all in one place and all at one time. I'll grab a bunch of crystals, make all the hyper cores I need (and several extra just in case) then sell the excess crystals.
I found them by getting a Nexus mission to gather storm crystals. This sent me to such a world. I made a base there so I could return later, but I ended up also finding another such world not long after(again, built a base) that was not quite as harsh on my life support.
I can't find Storm crystals either. I am on an activated Emeril world and before that an activated Copper world. The average temp on the activated Emeril world is about 80 degrees F and it gets storms every ten to twenty minutes of 310 degrees F. Am I on the wrong planet?
