Hot keys or key customization?
Though i give this game another try, this time would like to know if there a key i can use to recharge my shield without having go back to inventory and apply to the shield while in space combat, i know it is dumb thing to do. Since they made the game much harder in the starting system. I have checked to see if there a manual, couldnt find one and even check the guides and couldnt find anything there.

Sure hope there a way to recharge your shields while in space or ground combat with a single key stroke. As long you have enough sodium, etc. Not sure if this will work if you have battery units.

It should be the default x key, but I am not in the game to double check for you. Once the x key menu pops up, you can recharge.

That should give you a place to start looking till someone more knowledgeable can give you better instructions.

Cool thanks, i looked into the logs that explains about the game, etc. Doesnt say and i guess i have to wait until i am in space combat. By the time i am in combat (survival mode) it would be too late unless it mention it. Sometimes happen too fast didnt get a chance to read what was showing to you. So you will be too busy trying to fight off the pirates, etc.

The X menu (all controls mentioned are for the PC version) has "recharge equipment" as one of the selections; most things in that menu you can also hotkey by navigating to the selection, then pressing CTRL-<number> instead of actually selecting it. After you do that, you can just press the corresponding <number> key to bring up that function. I normally hotkey "recharge starship shields" on 9, which gets me the "select what to use" menu when I hit it. If I have half a second, I can move over to the starshield battery or concentrated sodium, but if I am in a really bad spot, I'll just use whatever comes up and not worry about the minor inefficiency from using raw sodium or two batteries (I play with expensive recharge, so one battery only recharges about 85%).

You can't quite get it down to one keypress - you can only hotkey recharging the starship shield, not "recharge the shield with X", and you can't overload the hotkeys, so you will need separate keys for your starship shield and suit hazard protection(s).

Hit X, hit your up button a couple times till you see correct item needed and accept. Boom, done. This works with all reloadable ammo, shields, in space and on ground. You can cycle through all your weapons, shields in a flash. You can even choose to use different or secondary mats but at first just get muscle memory and watch what the menu shows. Practice a bit so you don't try to use new methods under pressure, always a bad idea. It's a great feature. I am not so fond of making hot keys as sometimes they just don't work well, but the X menu is great.

The keybinds for recharging work poorly. Sometimes it will instantly recharge using the first resource in line, sometimes you have to click a resource. Also they will break if you swap for an other ship (you have to rebind after the swap). Same for multi tools.

Also, when setting hot keys, make sure to reset the controls for switching the visor screen. The visor screen changes with 1 and 3, a really poor choice by HG since 1 and 3 are also used for hotkeys in the quick menu. I personally set the visor to switch with the comma ( , )and the period ( . ), this way i can use keys 1, 2 and 3 for switching between my multi tools.
For recharging, I usually just navigate the quick menu.

Yeah i agreed with that, glad i had long finger to hold down the F key (visor) and reach up to 1, for survey and kept doing something else i didnt want to do. Kinda annoying.

Btw is there a way to remove those quest logs off the main screen? Cause they can be annoying as well. If i wanna look into logs, things i need to do, all i gotta do is simply hit ESC key and look under the log reports.

this game has no deacent buttonmapper
and personaly for me because of that
my gameplay feels clunky at sometimes
but i must say, this X-buttton menu is excellent
its just to bad that you cant bind some skills or actions to a hotkey
it would improve my gameplay xp defnitly
but you know what they say: what is not still can be
