I'm gonna give you one thing though, disabling comms would be welcome. A lot of idiotic political animosity from every side that there is leaks into the game thanks to those stupid messages. Props to the mad lad who was posting the vaporeon comms though.
To do that, from the Steam Client menu, select "Steam" -> "Go Offline" before launching and playing No Man's Sky. Playing offline works entirely fine for everything in the game, except comm balls, bases, save points, discoveries etc. of other players won't show up in your game.
The only downside is that you also will not have a connection to the Discovery servers.
If you care about having things you discover actually get populated to the servers, you should play while not Offline every few days, at least long enough for uploads to go through (you absolute CAN upload data while offline, and get nanites for it even, your save will just queue up the actual data until the next time you aren't offline).
No annoying Bases Text or other stuff.
just Steam in offline mode.
@Perfex - can you claim the milestone rewards in offline mode? I would guess yes but a confirmation would be great.
Thanks
That said, It is advised that you go online to claim the phase and final expedition rewards, just to be sure it syncs to your account file properly. It's supposed to sync up when you go online even if you've claimed them already, but there are reports of players who had issues with that.
I bought the game on sale for half price twice, so really I only paid full price. Totally worth it! :)
I would prefer to not have to read the political stuff, too. Part of enjoying the game is some escapism. I deal with politics irl, don't need it in my game. I've taken to report comms that contain those kind of messages. Don't know if it helps, but I'm hoping that there might come some solution if enough people complain.
