I think you can also customise a Normal mode to get this too.
Edit: Set Base Power to 'Free' (not 'Standard')
if one for example uses solar power, do it this way:

prefabs in general are a big help here
THAT option is a life savior, kind of a cheat ?
but I do not mind cheating in this case.
A big THAN You to all of you guys ! ! !
And since Sabian Grey was the 1st to mention that option ... his answer is solving my problems, with all the other reinforcing that and even give me an interesting way to play (maybe) with Prevabs ?
In fact, I'm still going to build bases with solar collectors because I like the aesthetic.
Have in mind that there are still items that need power - so you will still need one or another power source & wires. You can't disable this complete with the normal game options.
Yes, Thank You !
I found that recently.
I do not mind the energy consumption nor the use of resources to build the relevant energy producing items.
Is just that wiring is, at least for me, a tedious and tbh annoying "work" ...
Still looking though for a mod but found no one yet.
Maybe i am missing them.
But for NMS Universe Mechanics, wireless energy should be just another simulation to learn at the set time...
I use a lot of Solar for the same reason ...
Just to be as clear as possible:
The amount of useful info I get from you guys is super !
All of you = Awesome !

And I now have to look into this "Mining near base" thing !
So far NMS is mind-blowing, imho and is and outstanding entertainment !
Makes sense ! But I am still not in total "control" of the game thus Multiplayer is for the Future.
Personally, my issue with wires and pipes is how far apart the devs made electromagnetic fields and gas/mineral deposits, for the more advanced mining tech. You can absolutely NOT position your base anywhere that makes any sense, relative to these critical resources.
So my first thought, on reading the above posts, is about how a person is required to run a wire for as long as the wire goes (you can NOT just run 1 wire or pipe straight from resource collector to base) and then hook another wire on and go some more. Up and over hills is the absolute worst. At that point I've also run into problems where a wire terminates and some terrain is in the way to prevent you from hooking another one onto it.
So it's the advanced tech gameplay that's the problem with running wires. I don't think anybody cares if you can see the wires.
You've clearly never used it XD
The first problem is that there's a maximum distance a wire or pipeline can travel. I have absolutely never, ever, EVER seen any kind of advanced tech resource deposit close enough to a suitable base location to make just 1 run.
The second problem is that, with both wires and pipelines, if its path crosses so much "high terrain" that it clips (you know that graphical artefact where an object disappears into another and pops out the other side), it either turns red and won't let you place it at all or else it lets you place it but then no resource flows through it.
User error indeed.
