For me it sounds like a corrupted savefile ... Did you save & restart the game durung your work on the planet ? Or did you do that in one way ?
And did a restart of your system & NMS & reload of your saved game changed anything ?
Oh ... didn't know wthat .... Goof to know now & already changed for myself.
Thanks for the hint.
I always forget to change multiplayer settings when I start a new game and I started the expedition a few hours ago. This reminder has served to prompt me to go change those settings!
Fortunately no one screwed with me. <phew>
Edit to mention: Most of those settings are on a PER save game basis, so you have to remember to change them any time you start a new save (including expeditions). If that wasn't obvious from what I already said about NOT remembering. :)
I flew back down to my base, and everything that was missing... is now back... Doors, Walls, Ramps, Etc.
My Options did allow wayyy too many people... wayyy too much control; so I changed all that; Much Thanx for That Krash; Good Looking Out Mate :).
@JB for future reference: I'm unsure of what you mean. It took many Gaming Sessions to build my base... so I saved and reloaded a number of times. I'm not sure how to restart my system (or what that means); but I did exit the system Once (maybe twice) during the building process. Is there something in which I want to be careful not to do?
They will usually return if you leave the whole area and come back again (or restart the game), as you noticed.

With "restart your system" I mean your PC // Console // What ever. I have had the prob of missing parts only ones at the time I played NMS the first few days - and as I restartet // rebootet my PC and NMS all parts got back again.
I don't think it's the same issue as the link (but could be), but JB is probably right... it was the Game Reload that probably fixed it. Hopefully it won't happen again... but if it does that will be my Go To Move... and I'll Report it back here; for future reference :).
Thanx Again Mates :)
I was helping a friend build an "anchor base" in Hilbert Dimension last night and he was having an issue with vanishing parts. He'd found a power hotspot ~870u away ~40 degree down angle from his base computer in an especially vertical mountain range. He was able to bridge out to a flat spot at that angle just fine and place his generators, but every time he placed a battery or other small, permanent tech (he even tested solar panels) and walked out of render/cell load distance, the object permanently vanished along with their attached wires; we even examined his save as JSON and there were no records of the objects. He had to resort to using cuboid rooms as trackable anchors as they wouldn't disappear.
I'm wondering if the old small part culling issue from a few years back has returned, but only at certain vertical distances from point zero; none of my bases seem affected but I rarely build more than 100u vertically in relation to point zero.
But then again... All My Stuff returned, I believe after a ReBoot. It sounds like Your Friend's Stuff did not :(.
