You have put a lot of work into the beginning ship so keep it for old time's sake but there are lots of great ships out there and ship hunting is a favorite passtime of folks. the nice thing now is that you can move most of your tech from ship to ship at any time, a nice QoL feature. You will also need a crappy or stripped ship for going through galaxy cores so keep the old one for that. Same with multi tools. You want a stripped or junk one for changing galaxies as all the tech gets broken unless it's stored.
Having an S class ship doesn't meant the slots are maxed out, you can buy some S class ships with very little slots in tech and inventory where as others have a lot of slots unlocked, you can tell when you run your scanner over the ships as they land or come into land on a station or outpost. those ships with lots of slots already unlocked are going to be a lot more expensive though.
I'd suggest you build up a lot of credits if you going to do this the hard way and the more ships you intend to buy and upgrade the more credits you'll need. If you plan on upgrading a C class to an S class, you'll need a lot of nanites as well.
Producing expensive components regular can make billions fairly quickly and there are guides out there that can do this.
Edit: forgot the mould farms for nanites as well.
Are you saying that if I buy a ship and then immediately scrap it, I'd actually make profit?
Also, check the stats in the wiki to know what ship youre looking for.
Enjoy.
Early game, unless you just luck into an A or S class ship, being able to pick up a C class with a few more slots or a B class is now a reasonable option. Just check exactly what the new ship is sporting. In some cases they may not have something (like rockets) that your old ship has. Just store those rockets in your suit from the old ship and reinstall them in the new ship.
Ultimately, long term, you do want to move toward an S class ship, but early game it is easier and within your price range to just exchange your current ship for the new ship with a few more slots and maybe a slightly better class.
Before we could store addons and equipment, it really made no sense and it was better to wait until you could get afford to change to A class or S class. FYI, this same logic also works for multitools early game. Better to have a C class with 5 more slots if you get to keep your current addons and any special items you have installed.
Oh and I'll definitely check out ship stats on wiki, to find out what I want.
Funny. I actually saw a squid ship for the first time yesterday (didn't know they were called squid, but it totally makes sense 😂). It was an S-class and it was extremely expensive. Even if I traded in my own ship (which I kinda want to keep)
Squids in the wild are quite rare, so go buy a lotto ticket. I think I was about 2k hours in before I saw my first one, and have seen maybe a total of 3 in the wild with 3300 hrs on. So make a base in that system and call it squid or whatever. Then check if it comes in on the first wave of ships to the SS. The way to do that is NOT to fly in, get out and think you are at the first flight of npc ships. You need to jump out of your ship then go and reload that "restore Point", not the autosave the game makes when it feels like it, but the specific one from exiting the ship.
Stand around for a couple minutes and see what the first 10 or so ships are. Then even if it came in, reload that restore point again to see if that ship is consistent. You are doing this for science. If it is a first flight ship you can come back when you are rich (and you will be at some point) and need storage augmentations and ship upgrades way more than units and can kit yourself out quite quickly. They are also very nice ships to fly but that's my personal opinion. They are always S class as they are "exotics" along with the guppy style round ball ones. If it was me, I would save my units and come back and get it when you can, exotics are so much nicer as an all around ship than most anything else.
(Duck for incoming folks that hate them) but it's hard to argue with stats that shine.
Check the wiki for stats on those ships as not all are created equally. The better the starting stats, the better the end results. If a ship cycles through, each time it lands the stats may be slightly different which can result in some very fine attributes if you tend to min/max. Otherwise, don't worry about it. Fully kitted out, everything is OP.
OMG I forgot the most important question - - - What color was that squid?
I can't remember if I warped away from there though 😕
But on my next session, just in case, I'll setup a small base in that system and name it Squid, so I can come back later
Edit:
Now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure I quitted my last session in that very space station. So, are visiting alien spaceships tied to a space station? (I mean, are chances high the squid would visit this particular space station again?)
When I received my free freigther, it had 3 of those gravitational ball rooms. Not sure if that's standard when you get your freighter, but harvesting and selling those, are a pretty easy way to gain units quickly. So, it should be doable on my own.
I just started nms on the background (while working :P), reloaded the restore point in the space station as suggested and waited for incoming alien ships. So far, ±15mins, no squid yet.
Is that correct?
I did the above and waited for about 1 hour, but no squid yet. Should I just be more patient, or should it have visited by now? (because in case of the latter, I might have to teleport back to one of my previous solar system space stations)
(I'm pretty sure I've seen several alien ships visit this space station a few times now)
