Activating a portal
I've found a portal at long last! I've loaded it with the resources it wanted but I can't activate it, all i can do is see it's address or leave>?

Accessing the terminal of a charged portal should display the portal's menu. It should show three options: "Activate Portal", "Request this planet's address", and "Leave". Choosing to "Activate Portal" opens a keypad of the sixteen glyph's. You can only enter glyph's that you have unlocked. After all twelve glyph's are input the portal will activate. Passing through the portal will then deliver you to the destination address. If you enter one glyph 12 times this address will take you to a planet close to the galaxy centre.

I think the "Activate Portal" is only available if you have learned some of the glyphs, either by interacting with traveller graves or as part of the main questline.

The way I've done it so far is look for a traveller at space stations. The first time you talk to them you get some lore and an option to pick. (doesn't seem to matter which you pick) The second time you talk to them you can ask them where they came from. This gives you a marker for a grave within the system, for 100 nanites.

I'm always a bit puzzled by post like this, when you have like 2000 hours in the game.

:-) I know how to get the gyphs ... Another way is to do the "Path of Atlas" storyline. :-)

Question at OP reminds, and also if doing the travelers way or the storyline-way will open the option at portals to use them....

That's hard to explain away!

Make sure you drop a base down so you can find it easily again via a teleporter
An excellent strategy.

I've put a base computer down next to it. Yes I've played a lot of hours in this game but never got involved with portals except on the 'Awakenings' quest/story which I've done several times. As this current save game has developed from the last expedition, I've gone on from there and am trying to find out more about the things I've missed including portals and glyphs (which I don't have). Somebody on here gave a glyph sequence to get to a really nice planet which I'd like to find as I'm not finding nice planets to put a base down so far in Euclid. Also the Station Store-what is that about on the space station?
Thank you all for your advice and I'll look for travellers now.

Without at least one glyph you can't activate the portal. You can obtain all 16 glyph's by completing the Artemis Path mission, or find 16 different Travellers to talk to. In my case I found the mission path less time consuming than finding Travellers.

Is there the Artemis-path after switching from an expedition to a normal savefile ?

Yes.

I don't want to go through the story yet again! Is there a way to get to the portal bit without doing it all?

I have a mod called auto scanner plus. It makes icons appear over points of interest when you fly over planets. It puts a yellow diamond icon over dead npc travelers, so finding glyph graves is extremely easy, and more fun.

or just visit space stations and trade hubs, sometimes there is a random traveler at these places. talk to them TWICE and ask where they are from the 2nd time and they give you location to a glyph grave.

Thank you JJ
