Is Targeting in space combat broken?
Is anyone else having issues with using Targeting in space battles? I''m on Steam/Win 10 (latest version)/with a GeForce 2070 RTX; all software updated, cleared cache, checked my mouse sensitivity and response in options, and run no mods at all.
I like targeting when I'm swarmed with Sents, it helps to make it easier to focus to take them down one by one, but now can't even get it to work and am getting worn down & killed pretty quickly because I can't take out any sentinels. (Which, by the way, since Fractured came out, is it just me or do they also seem to be able to move faster and make some unbelievable turns to evade in combat? And I definitely seem to be able to drift in space like Vin Diesel was flying my ship.) Has anyone else noticed this or had this issue, and is there a fix for it yet, or is that still in the Experimental or "A Yet to be Released" Patch? Thanks for any help.

I'm on experimental 10703259 no problems. Win 10/Steam w/ Controller.

In battle I rarely use engine, just sit still and Lock with X fire Rocket, swap weapon fire, swap to Rocket, Kill.. Lock, rinse repeat.

There's actual select-able targeting?

Mine just auto selects a ship with red trails and I shoot it until it's dead (while trying not to hit the guys with green trails).

OP, your post doesn't really explain what the issue is, so it's hard to comment...

I fly using the cockpit (1st-person) view, and I will say the lock-on is imperfect at best. It doesn't really keep up well with the enemy ships. So I just use phase beam to steal shields from them before swapping to a higher-powered weapon to finish them off.

I feel like the 3rd person flies worse using mouse+keyboard, but the targeting might work better. Sure seems that way from watching streamers play the game.

yes, there is select-able targeting... i don't know the key on kbd but on controller, once you have activated autotargeting, left and right on the D-Pad will move to the previous or next target... aside from that, if you specifically shoot at a particular ship and then enable autotargeting, it will stick to them until you switch to another or kill them...

@ bobhome2, I use same view as you and same tactics. (1st person, using the phase beam to steal shields & keep up a good long battle, which I am getting better at making into shorter battles, then switching between cannons and IK with 2 gold mods each from the vendors, which work good to help account for the targeting (as it is), And yes, targeting isn't perfect like it shows in the demos HG always has showing, but at least it worked good enough for its purpose. Now it just does nothing. Doesn't activate, choose a target, show any display at all, nothing.

UPDATE: I saw Prescient Stones post when I posted a few min ago, and it got me thinking. So I went back, made sure all my drivers were updated and settings were correct, and played with the <Auto Follow> in options and found that if I use the *Hold* mode targeting works, but not the *Toggle*, mode, which is what I have used since it was available.
So, fixed for now, but annoying to hold continually. I hope this is patched, soon, also. Thank you, everyone, and May the Sky be With You.

what button are you holding? on my xbox controller i use the X on the face buttons... there are, IIRC, two places where toggle or hold are set... one in the menu and the other in the key mapping or controller layout...

i remember changing it previous before Fractals dropped and changed the controller layout... i had set my left trigger to do two things... a partial pull/squeeze would toggle my auto-tracking on/off and a full pull/squeeze would cause my ship to slow and backup... with Fractal, the auto-targeting has been moved to the X face button... i still want to look deeper and see if i can go back to my trigger method but i've not been able to find my way back in there with steam's changes and updates in the last couple of months...

anyway, my point is to be sure the button you are pressing is set to toggle if that's what you want... then also set that other option to toggle... they must both be the same... that should get you back to how you prefer...

In space battles I have no issues with targeting, I just aim ahead of where my target is going and usually score hits. However, I do have issues with targeting planets for scanning. It would seem that aiming directly at a planet Im trying to scan doesnt work most of the time, but if I aim above it, then it locks on for scanning. I really hope that the game gets better mapping and scanning in the future, especially for locating things on the planet's surface. Even something like a long range drone for mapping items of interest would be a cool and significant upgrade.

The targeting in Space battle is working fine for me on the latest version of the game

Are you doing it in 3rd or 1st person?

If I try to target a planet in 3rd person, I have to aim really low on the planet.

i have no problem targeting enemies, Unless you mean autotargeting ......when near is my freighter, a combat frigate of mine attacking my target, IF there is this issue, need to give some shoots to enemy so you can autofollow it.

My problem with targeting is when you warp in to a system with a freighter battle in progress. There is always one pirate pre-targeted in front of me that is way out of range, and 2 pirates right on my tail shooting at me. I want to switch the selected target to the ones behind me but I can't find any way to do that on keyboard/mouse. I have to just spin around like an idiot with a bee flying around my head until I spot them and land one hit to make it my selected target. There has to be a better way.

auto-targetting works like 75% of the time for me but there are sometimes when pressing/holding the button does nothing for me even though there are obviously enemies around and one is targetted even

look at Options->Controls->Remap then on the top bar, click over to "Flight Controls"... scroll down and you should find "Next Target" and "Previous Target"... on mine they are "." (period) and "," (comma) respectively...

FWIW: at the bottom i also see kbd "E" for Combat Autopilot (Toggle) and kbd "S" for Combat Autopilot (Hold) which means kbd users can hold or toggel for the autotargetting...
