No Consequences for Piracy?
Am I missing something, or can I really just loot all of a freighter's valuables, then get chased by one Sentinel ship and shot at by 1-3 turrets before landing on that same freighter and removing all aggression before warping to the next system to sell the stuff?

Is this an intended game mechanic?

As all the other mechanics, it's all pretty shallow and without any real consequences.

The game is not 'hardcore' in any way. It's meant to be enjoyed by all ages.

You loose point with the race you've attack.

Assuming you are on a fresh character, there is a consequence, but it mainly matters if you want to do missions. Losing reputation with the faction you attack does have an effect. If you are of high reputation with all factions, then you have a much higher chance of getting missions that give salvaged frigate modules, multitool expansions, ship cargo augments, etc.

If you really don't give a crap about those missions, then there likely isn't too much to worry about at all.

Nothing in this game matters.

You're doing it the hard way. Go to a pirate system for piracy. You can loot freighters all you want without worrying about sentinels! :)

Iirc, if you attack the cargo pods on large freighters, there is no reputation hit. If you attack the smaller satellite vessels, then you take that hit. I just attack the big freighters.

Actually if you stick to the cargo on the freighters, you don't lose any rep.
