Late game, your suit or ship inventory should serve. No need to really sort those since the game will use them regardless of where they are.
Once you get the matter beam on the freighter, everything becomes super easy. You can pull and put from anywhere in a system from your storage.
It does not take long and you will have more storage then you actually need. I have several saves and never use a couple of my storage containers. You do have to learn what you need to keep for emergencies and what to sell off. That comes with experience.
In case you did not know, even if you have a sliver (like 1) of one of the special metals (cad, indium, emeril, and so on) you can craft as much as you need with a refiner. No need to find some goofy planet to mine a new supply. I often just cannibalize parts early game to get that sliver of what I need for refining.
thanks for the advice , i dont have the matter beam unlocked yet so im hunting down freighter salvage.
personally speaking, i don't want any sorting done... why? because i learned that i can craft stuff (eg) in my storage cubes if i have the necessary materials in that storage cube... this means that i may need (eg) carbon in more than one cube and sorting could mess that up by moving it all to one cube... being able to craft things in the storage cubes saves the step(s) of having to craft something in your exosuit, star ship, exocraft, or freighter and then move it somewhere else...
another reason i don't want any sorting done is because it could all too easily mess up my own ""sorting"" of my materials... i have certain materials i place in certain slots in my suit and ship... things i need more often are at the top while things i need less often are at the bottom... but it depends, too, on what i'm doing and what type of "build" i'm working on...
I have a container for raw materials, a container for building materials, a container for tech stuff, a container for fuel related stuff, a container for upgrades etc.
Apart from that i do it like wkitty42. Most used items and consumables in the suit respectively starship and one freighter container for recurring crafting.
The devs don't seem to bother maybe because they don't want to mess with this part either....as it's too complex and players have already gotten used to it....
Whoever needs it will press the button.
I am also experiencing inconvenience.
But I won't hold my breath...
If I build a second container and put it next to one of the others does it link too? Will it link to a 4th one if I build it in the other base?
It would be cool to be able to sort by minerals, gasses, good etc.
