You can turn any fighter into a black and white Alpha Vector, any exotic into a white and gold swordfish, and any exotic multitool into one that matches the exotic ship with those seeds. Take the NomNom save editor, open your save and select the starship tab for the ships, top left of the tab is a pull down menu to select the ship, last used before the save will be the default selected. halfway down is Customization and in the bottom of that section is Seed. Replace that seed code with a known seed, save the save file and in the game the ugly ship you had is now the one you want. Same steps for the multitool.
Since you went to the known location and there was no ship, it would not be cheating to just get another and swap the seed. You just need the seed for the ship you want. If you can find someone who has the ship you want they could get the seed for you.
What could be causing your issue could be a mod if you have any installed, I had one so that only fighters would go to space stations and it stopped other types of ships from spawning as crashed ships. My suggestion for ship hunting though is look for portal codes for ships NPC's use rather than crashed. Cheaper on the crafting mats and unit's are super easy to get making purchasing a fully functional ship cheaper than repairing one. You also only need to do the portal once because you will have the space station teleporter available forever after. Check the station and any trade locations on the planets until the ship arrives.
I am not up to speed on best methods of gaining Units, but was gifted some so I can afford a ship or two without issue at the moment. When I couldn't see the ship at the crash site, I did go to the space station and hung out for a bit, but the ship didn't show. So I found a trade station in the system and did luck out there and just bought it.
Mods would make sense as the culprit, I do have a couple going.
I had/have it turned off, though I didn't actually know why I needed to so that is helpful information.
Another method for getting units is put the mining beam upgrade that gives +50% more materials into a supercharged slot for +88% more and the other 2 supercharged slots fill with scanning upgrades. Then find a planet with salt found in rocks and scan everything you can and turn everything into crafting mats while looking for yellow markers with stars in them. Salt sells for more than any other common crafting mat and you will end up with a full stack quite quickly, scanning critters, rocks, and plants makes allot and the items you can get from yellow markers could be up to 10 million units. Then when bored with trying to find something to scan because all you have left is the rare flying critter that's only out during the day get in your ship and slow fly while low to the ground looking for yellow blips on the directional hud thing and find the planets plant groves such as star bulb or cactus flesh. Clear the yellow marked items and pick every plant in the groves. After visit the local space station and sell everything you collected and don't want to keep like crafting mats you don't come across often and always need.
Before you know it you will have more units than you will ever need and full stacks of every crafting mat. Also you can turn on the internet in single player, when you visit Nada and friends other players will be there and sometimes they gift some expensive stuff but you will never see anyone when exploring or doing missions 99.999% of the time even in core portal systems with dozens of player bases. I gifted ship scrap worth ~100 million to someone using the starter ship once but also some horrific sample thing from a random space encounter.
