what i did:
use pulse-spitter as multitool-weapon
open egg,
grab core while horrors are hatching
retreat while trying to kill those horrors

OR

park exocraft (i suggest nomad) next to egg(s)
open egg
grab core, get in exocraft and drive away

Any building on the starting planet will have eggs & the benefit of no sentinels. When you run over things with your exocraft.

You can still use those methods it's just that the un-upgraded jetpack will barely get you off the ground, much less to the top of the building. as for trenches... I never could get that to work. The horrors always fell in the trench with me!

I did the grab and run. Mine were on those steep mountain cliffs and given I could pick the high ones the jetpack always got me well out of range. Back to the ship and wait, then find the next one.

There are a lot of ways to do this one, it does take some thought but only three wasn't that deadly. 10 or so and I tend to get complacent and die ;)

My way, which is free of all the frantic activity that usually accompanies this task: plop down a base computer. Build a small rectangular wooden shack around the clump of whispering eggs. Leave the top open. Put a doorway in one wall if you like or just jetpack into the enclosure. Harvest the eggs, moving quickly to grab them before they disappear into the ground. The horrors may strike through the walls but they won't harm you. When you've got them all, jetpack back out and land on top of your starship, which you had previously summoned conveniently nearby, close enough for your escape, you clever old spacer.

I just did the exocraft suggestion and it worked like a charm. Even got the satisfaction of running a few horrors over with the craft and watching them explode into pieces!

YW. It's my prefered way to collect nanites. It's not the fastest way but I enjoy riding across the landscape.

Find abandon structure (like for example with the radar dish on your colossus)
Grab an Egg, jump on the roof, wait until they dispersed a little, jump down where they are the least numerous, grab another egg... rinse and repeat. Enter the building or your Space Ship, when you are done to let the swarm subside, or just keep murdering them.
