If you fly slowly over the tops of those large plateaus your ship can even show you the red worm marker and the tendrils will even pop out and attack your ship.
There's usually only 4 per Titan worm.
Bonus: this weekends event is the same thing

There are planets that are labelled as 'Infested' which commonly have the titan worms.
The number of titans will vary. As the titans move about they will deposit the tendrils marked by red 'worm' icons that can be seem while scanning. The picture above is from the 5th rendezvous planet in Expedition 4.
They may appear on the more 'extreme' challenging planets and in other locations too. If you google Expedition 4 called 'Emergence' online, the rendezvous planets had them. That was the expedition that introduced the tendrils. You may also find portal addresses for expedition 4 rendezvous locations and can go visit.

I think this picture is from one of the other rendezvous planets, maybe the 3rd.
Here's some info on Expedition 4 copied from reddit for you and lists the rendezvous portal addresses.

Titan worm planets are everywhere though and if you stay long enough even on some quieter plans they can make you jump with an unexpected appearance. It's possible the recent update may have changed their distribution but I don't think it did. Maybe.
