WHY Am I Still Holding Down Buttons???

So, right there in the accessibility settings is an option for "Hold to Confirm" Enabled/Disabled.

One assumes (I know, I know; ass out of me AND you) that this would enable or disable having to HOLD BUTTONS DOWN TO DO STUFF.

Yet, here I am, "Hold to Confirm" DISABLED, and HOLDING the button to use the visor, and HOLDING the button to gather plants, and HOLDING the button to search containers. What the absolute bilge-spunk-swilling ♥♥♥♥ is this BS?!?!? If I wanted to HOLD DOWN THE BUTTONS, then I ... (wait for it)... Wouldn't have turned OFF the "hold down the buttons" menu option!

Ridiculous.

This is some sloppy console port shenanigans. The kind of crap you see from the absolute laziest console ports from the "Triple AAAAAAAAAAAAA" industry (Jim Sterling's voice in my head, by the way).

Now I GET that that option is just for the UI and menus, foorrrrrr.... Some reason, but WTF? If the player DOESN'T want to be holding down just ALL the buttons in the menus, doesn't it stand to reason that they maybe don't want to be holding down just ALL the buttons EVERYWHERE ELSE???!???

I don't get it. Just got this game today, and between this ridiculous bit of ♥♥♥♥-ery and the whole game murdering the brightness if you DARED to use fullscreen instead of borderless, I'm just... At a loss... I don't get it. This is NOT a new game. And yet, here we are.

Put simply, the hold-to-activate UI is intended to slow actions-per-minute and give the impression that tasks take time and effort. Unfortunately, it's annoying instead of conveying something which makes the game more enjoyable.

What are you confirming when you grab a plant? Is there a button on that plant? Is it in the room with you right now?

totally agree, this was my first impression of the setting also.

maybe it is me but i read that as applying only to confirmations... not everything else... i mean it does specifically say "confirm" right? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I partially agree, gathering I can get why and respect it, but interacting with any console, interacting with a ship, etc. it's just BS, I'm pressing a button because I want it to do stuff, I don't need the game to ask me If i'm sure by needing to press it 1 and a half seconds, it's jarring and it's the sole reason I dropped games in the past.

Have you tried it? I have, it doesn't work. I'm still holding E for a lot of things.
