the game keeps crashing before i can even play
whenever I try to play no mans sky it crashes while loading the world after selecting the game mode can some one please help me.
UPDATE: no I don't get a crash code the game just freezes and then closes while im zooming thru space before loading a world. I've only gotten to the hold E to initialize part once out of 20 try's and I didn't even finish holding E before it crashed.
UPDATE2: i got the game to work but only after switching to bordered in the options

Exactly the same for me. No error code, no warning. Just bounces straight back to Steam. It was working last time I tried it 2 days ago before the update.
EDIT: The game DID start up when choosing "Bordered" in the options, but if I try to make it full screen or borderless? Crash. Unfortunately, the game crashes a few seconds later, and is completely unplayable in the current state. I'm not even going to try again until they push a fix.

do you get a crash code? if yes, go to HG's zendesk (https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013870118-I-have-an-issue-to-report-in-NMS) and file an issue... be sure to paste the code in your report along with as much other info as you can provide... OS, whether Steam, Steam Deck, or GOG or whatever... GPU and GPU driver version, etc... be sure to include a valid email address so they can contact you for more info if needed but don't expect a response other than an automated one ACKing your report... they will write if more is needed...

I just posted the same bug; happened while trying to start the Utopia expedition. Did a refresh files; made no difference. Went back and loaded a saved game from last December; brought up the game itself, then immediately did a CTD. As above, all four times without any crash code or file.

I ran through the list of things to do posted on Zendesk (update steam, update drivers). No luck.

After upgrade, Game loads to Character at last save point then crashes to start NMS screen.
Message on screen at crash states "Primary Exocraft Switched" then returns to Steam NMS load screen.

when you start the game, it loads for a while and then crashes. Don't you have someone to test the ♥♥♥♥ before you put it there??

та же проблема. после обновления не могу запустить игру. пишет что-то вроде убедитесь что ваша видеокарта в списке рекомендованных. 3070 я думаю достаточно для этой игры?

The same crashes after load the last savepoint and return to the desktop.
Do they testing the new update before release ???

same for me but updated video drivers, turned off motion blur and dropped graphics level by 1. Worked after that, played the whole expedition with only 1 crash. Also turn off multiplayer before loading. Still other bugs though like the trade terminal in my freighter does not work anymore.

Yeah same. It literally doesn't give me a code. It doesn't even crash, it just sits forever as "application not responding." I as so hyped about the new ship, now im just disappointed...

This update should have not come out in this condition. they should of waited and worked on it for a few more months imo.

Same problems here... I select the desired SAVE, the moving star field displays as the game save begins 'loading', the moving star field graphics stutter, with the displayed frame rate count bounces radically from about 32 fps, briefly up to 50 fps, then plunge to 4 fps, and then bounce up again. Sometimes the star field 'loading screen' goes white, and the imagery for my game SAVE begins to appear, but it then freezes while still in very low resolution. Most often, however, the moving star field 'loading' display never completes. It stutters but then stops completely before completing the load. After about 5 seconds of no screen motion at all, a small block appears with a text note and an empty progress bar:

"No Man's Sky has stopped working
Hang on while Windows reports the problem to Microsoft..."

The progress bar then fills with a jerk, and the text in the small note box changes to read:

"No Man's Sky has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I must then click on the "CLOSE PROGRAM" button beneath the text for the display to vanish and return the screen display to the Steam Library page.

My CPU (AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.1 GHz) and my Graphics card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti) are both up to date... backed by 16 GB DDR4 RAM. The game worked flawlessly, with absolutely no stutters the day before the FRACTAL UPDATE was automatically downloaded and installed by STEAM. My game graphics settings all defaulted to ULTRA when I first began playing back in 2012, but I'd set a couple of them down to HIGH to increase speed and performance. I also had set BLUR to 0.

With this constant error/game-stopping/error notification and the display defaulting back to Steam desktop, I figured that something about the game update graphics was making massive increased processing demands. I tried to resolve the problems by reducing ALL of the graphics settings to the lowest possible option (STANDARD), but I continue to experience the exact same error/game-stopping/error notification every time.

The ONLY thing different between game play on Tuesday 21 Feb 2023 and Wednesday 22 Feb 2023 was the FRACTAL UPDATE. My PC game play was absolutely flawless before the update, and completely broken AFTER the update. I've got nearly 2,000 hours of NMS game play under my belt, but until something drastically changes, my time in NMS is apparently ended despite my desire to continue.
