Darkening Screen upon launching NMS
Hi guys, my screen starts to get really dark when I launch NMS, it used to be fine, it seems to have maybe been something with this update, I'm not sure. A computer restart will fix it, but if I launch the game, it will darken the screen again. (Dark screen persists after closing game down.)

I tried looking it up, there was like one fix about turning 'game mode' off in your Windows Settings, but that did not do anything.

Any help would be appreciated!

I don't know if this is related to HDR but I can say that my hardware doesn't support HDR so it's not even on ever, but I can confirm changing Fullscreen to Borderless and restarting game fixes it for me, I found out when I fiddled with reseting graphic settings and reversing back to old that Fullscreen causes for game screen to appear dimmed or muted colors and brightness. No idea what's going there but that's only workaround I am aware of.

This is happening to me as well. The screen will darken when I launch the game, and if I alt+tab to desktop it stays darker, but to me it goes away as soon as I close the game. So weird.

Yeah even if I alt tab it stays darker, close the game, my monitor is still dark(er) than normal, a full computer restart fixes it entirely until I launch up NMS again. I thought it had been HDR doing it, but I turned it on and off to no luck.

Same as well. Before getting the update I ran my game first and it was fine. But after the update it loads up and gets pass the logos and just stays darken after that. I tried a few solutions like seeing if am updated and verifying files cause thats my issue sometimes. So far I havent found anything that works.

Lemme know if you figure it out, I'll keep trying to work on it too. I'll update if I find anything that works.

Seems to be the HDR setting. I turned it off and it prevents the background from being dark as well.,

However, the game is way too dark and colourless without it. I don't get it, never used HDR in the past

I don't recall having this problem before? but it has been months since I last played

Try using borderless and restart your game.

I'm having this problem too. Never used HDR in this game (or any game for that matter). I haven't played NMS since the last big update, but this is the first time I recall this kind of thing happening. Maybe it's a bug due to them reworking HDR completely and it broke brightness somehow.

EDIT: Changing to Borderless and restarting works, but if you change it back to fullscreen, it'll darken immediately and you'll have to change to borderless and restart again. Such a weird bug.

Yes, for the fix to work you will need to have it set to borderless all the time.

Yep, running it in Borderless and restarting fixed it for me. There -was- something about them changing HDR lighting in the patch notes, even if you have the option disabled maybe it is bleeding out into this bug when it's not supposed to?

I thought I was going crazy. Glad to know I'm not alone

Had this exact same darkening problem too.

Putting the screen back to borderless (from the fullscreen I had set it to) and restarting seems to have fixed it.

-PS: JUST got this game, by the way. NOT an encouraging start. If they can't be trusted to have the OPTIONS MENU work right, what hope is there for the ACTUAL GAME.

I checked the default brightness, and its at 50%. I changed it to 75% and it looks pretty good for now. I am in a space station by the way, so those are sort of dark. I too thought it was my graphics driver or setting, even checked my monitor settings. I just changed the brightness in game. HDR is off since I dont have a monitor that supports it, and I am on full screen. Hope this helps in any way.

I dont know how to make this not happen at all, but for me opening display settings (the one on windows not in game) fixes it until i close and reopen the game again.
