i generally try to make a manual save before making a jump to a new system so i can go back and do it again if i mess something up and don't/can't get everything moved from the old freighter to the new one... reloading and trying again may also result in the new freighter being rerolled and not being the same as what you first encountered, though...
Thanx all for the Input; I thought You only got 2 shots at getting a Personal Freighter (MotherShip... whatever); the first being Good... the Second being Awesome. when I Played before (years back), I took the first one; but then someone said if you turn down the first, the next is better.
As well... after taking the first... I don't recall ever being offered another; or maybe I just didn't take the proper steps. Either way...I've only made one jump, so I guess I'll start jumping around; I don't want to be locked to a Planet Base this time around.
Good Looking Out Mate... GREAT to Know. I plan to put a Lot of Effort into the Design, and would hate to lose all the Work I Plan to put into my MotherShip :).
Things likely have changed a lot since you played it. I just started in December, after the last big update so I don't know how it used to be back then, but now there are fleets around in pretty much every system and many have freighters for sale.
You can have up to 240 (or close to that) bases across all galaxies, so you're not locked to a particular base in any way. Bases are useful for farms and mines. You can freely teleport between your bases, other people's uploaded bases, space stations and your freighter. So you're not tying yourself to any planet by having bases on it. You can delete a base at any time. But many people do like to build up a freighter to be a mobile base. Almost everything you can do in a planetary base you can do now in a freighter, except for mining metals and minerals.
yes, it could be a capital-class instead of a normal-class system freighter... capital-class capital ships (aka capital-class freighters) are the sentinel-family or venator-family freighters... these two families has three sub-classes each... eg: Capital-class Venator-family Resurgent-class is the really huge starwars venator star destroyer-like freighter
this url will certainly be helpful...

FWIW: it should be noted that all freighters have the same build area size no matter what class or family they are... the build area is 21 x 19 x 15 so there's a LOT of room available to build in... my own current largest build is ""only"" 5 or 6 (maybe 7) stories tall out of the 15 available...
