When do I get My MotherShip?
I played this game (Non-VR) Years ago... I recall I get a MotherShip, but don't recall how far into the plot I get it. I also recall getting the ship (MotherShip), but finding out, afterwards, that if I said No to the First one... I'd get a Better One later. Am I remembering correctly... and if so, how much later.

I want to make the MotherShip my Home Base, instead of having a Planetside Base; so I'm not spending a lot of time building a base, but wondering when I'll be able to build a Home :).

Also... Not that it's important; but if I recall correctly, on the ship everything is automatically powered, and there is no need for Generators... Correct?

Advanced Thanx

You can get a freighter if you defend it from pirates, this happens like every five jumps, I think. Also, look out for fleets, often there are freighters available for outright purchase, it will have a freighter icon. Just land on it and speak to the cptn to buy it. Just keep in mind though that you can only own one freighter at a time and you can't sell it, only swap it for another. So don't jump on the first opportunity to get one. You probably want a better class and there will be many opportunities to buy one. Finally, be aware that freighters are difficult and very time consuming to upgrade and build up a base.

If you mean a freighter, you get it after a few jumps as I recall, otherwise I have never had an offer of a mothership.

sometimes when you warp into a system you will encounter a freighter being attacked, fight off the bad guys and they will invite to to dock on their freighter..you have options to receive payment or inspect and buy the freighter....that's how I got my very first freighter..

Mark @Zak's reply as the "answer" - it's 100% spot on

Beside what @Zak wrote: if you have your base on a freighter and find later a better one, make shure to have at least one item in cargo of your old freighter. That way you will be asked if you like to transfer the base from the old freighter to the new one when you buy the new freighter.

if you want to get a freighter, you must defend him against pirates, to hit the royal fight you must be on the game 3 hours and then do 5 jumps,

posting to add: don't forget to pack up your tech so you can move it to the new freighter, too...

i generally try to make a manual save before making a jump to a new system so i can go back and do it again if i mess something up and don't/can't get everything moved from the old freighter to the new one... reloading and trying again may also result in the new freighter being rerolled and not being the same as what you first encountered, though...

I call it the MotherShip because it's my Primary Ship... and Because I didn't know it was called a Freighter (LoL); but I still like MotherShip Better :).

Thanx all for the Input; I thought You only got 2 shots at getting a Personal Freighter (MotherShip... whatever); the first being Good... the Second being Awesome. when I Played before (years back), I took the first one; but then someone said if you turn down the first, the next is better.

As well... after taking the first... I don't recall ever being offered another; or maybe I just didn't take the proper steps. Either way...I've only made one jump, so I guess I'll start jumping around; I don't want to be locked to a Planet Base this time around.

Good Looking Out Mate... GREAT to Know. I plan to put a Lot of Effort into the Design, and would hate to lose all the Work I Plan to put into my MotherShip :).

Things likely have changed a lot since you played it. I just started in December, after the last big update so I don't know how it used to be back then, but now there are fleets around in pretty much every system and many have freighters for sale.

You can have up to 240 (or close to that) bases across all galaxies, so you're not locked to a particular base in any way. Bases are useful for farms and mines. You can freely teleport between your bases, other people's uploaded bases, space stations and your freighter. So you're not tying yourself to any planet by having bases on it. You can delete a base at any time. But many people do like to build up a freighter to be a mobile base. Almost everything you can do in a planetary base you can do now in a freighter, except for mining metals and minerals.

Skip the first free freighter and ask for the payment instead, the 2nd freighter will be a capital ship.

The title makes me think of one of my all time favorite movies. 'The Cat from Outer Space' :)

That's what I remember from when I played 'Way Back When'! Based on the Above... I'm wondering if that's still true. As stated, I haven't played this game in Years.

there's a bit more RNG usage now... the 2nd one should be better than the 1st one you turned down but it may not be that much better...

yes, it could be a capital-class instead of a normal-class system freighter... capital-class capital ships (aka capital-class freighters) are the sentinel-family or venator-family freighters... these two families has three sub-classes each... eg: Capital-class Venator-family Resurgent-class is the really huge starwars venator star destroyer-like freighter

this url will certainly be helpful...
https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Freighter_Types

FWIW: it should be noted that all freighters have the same build area size no matter what class or family they are... the build area is 21 x 19 x 15 so there's a LOT of room available to build in... my own current largest build is ""only"" 5 or 6 (maybe 7) stories tall out of the 15 available...
