To get your starship in colors that you want you either have to spend time hunting down a system that has a ship (at least close to) the colors you want, or edit your save game with the save editor.
Custiomisation, like options, is always good.
So basically, they have EVERYTHING programmed already for painting your ship. Except the User Interface to do it.
I think it kinda keeps the excitement alive in finding that perfectly gorgeous ship.
But there is no such thing. There are too many people with too many different tastes and not enough variety of ships. The only way to get the perfect ship colors is to customise it yourself.
