They exist. Wait… 2 years?

Next he's going to be telling us that he's had it not just for 2 years, but that he's playing on the Switch.

Just an FYI, @Apollo13, Settlements have only been in the game for 1 year 3 months and 29 days.

And yes, I had one save game where I got it to S, after filling all of the bars to 100% for population, production and happiness. I have many other save games though and none of the rest have gotten above A.

The one that I got to S started as a B-class settlement though, and almost all of my other games started at C-class. No idea if that makes a difference, but it does at the very least make it easier/faster.

Yup, No maintenance cost for a long time, 1.000.000 in the bank for a long time, 100% Happiness for a long time. Only 35 people though. Anyone that ask to join the base , I let them . Just does not happen that often. I dunno.

No no, ONE year, 3 months, 29 days. That's the longest you could have had the settlement.

But yes, population is what's holding you back. The one settlement I did get to S-class started with 50-something for population.

I just got another settlement that started that high today (in my expedition 7 save); I suspect it will be the next save where I reach S-class. Population is already up to 61 with just one day of settlement decisions.

One thing that helps, which you probably figured out, is when they offer to go on expedition...DENY it. They lead to population loss pretty frequently.

BTW, my Switch comment was because the Switch version of the game does not HAVE settlements. i.e. it's as impossible as having one for 2 years.

Just how much population do you need?

My current settlement looks like this with 181 population. I don't believe anyone has an S-Class settlement at this time. It seems to be broken.

Yes settlements are broken and the class doesn't matter. Yours should be S-class and your A-class doesn't change anything important. Why?

That might be the case, @AmberAnvil, I no longer even have the save where I got to S-class, it was a while ago. Could be bug introduced since then.

You're right, it doesn't change a thing. It's just broken. :steamsad:

When settlements first arrived, they might go straight to S-Class from B-Class before your construction tasks were even complete. HG then patched so that wouldn't happen, but S-Class hasn't ever happened again either. :steamfacepalm:

This has been my experience as well. No problem getting my settlement to S-class in the first few weeks of release. Never happened again.

Crap, I was hoping to get back to S level by increasing the population to 100.
Now I see that my efforts were in vain.

@AmberAnvil:
How did you manage to get the population to 181? How many living quarters have you built?

Max population = 200

As a result of this thread, I set out to get a Settlement to S-class, and removed all potential barriers to that from outside game sources (no mods, no save editing, etc. etc.). I've worked on the settlement by logging into that save multiple times a day, every day, for the past 3 months (and it wasn't a brand new save when I started either).
It just rolled over to S-class this morning, after hitting 200 population.

So, though it took a while, I can say that a settlement absolutely CAN reach S-class through natural, normal gameplay. But it sure takes a long time.

Hey thank you for doing that. I've been wondering the same thing. Appreciate you doing the work.
