Large-class freighters? How to get them?
So i've been hearing about large-class freighters like the dreadnought and Imperial classes, but all I ever seem to see is the same sized cargo freighters, is there some special trick i need to do to find them or do i just have horrible luck

Just bad luck.

I suspect you may just not know what the capital versus regular system freighters look like, because after your first space rescue you are pretty much gauranteed to start seeing the capital freighters on future space rescue missions (i.e. every 5th jump/3 hours).

I say 'pretty much guaranteed' because I have not looked into the game files themselves to see what the exact makeup is, but I honestly cannot remember the last time I did a space rescue that was NOT a capital freighter, other than the very first one on each new game start.

See this wiki page[nomanssky.fandom.com] for images depicting what the Capital freighters look like, vs. all of the regular ones. I'm thinking you may be seeing mostly Sentinel family capital freighters, and what you are looking for is the Venator family. Both are capital freighters though.

Supposedly, they switch off. If you got a "system" freighter type this encounter, next should be a "capital" type. That mostly has borne out in my tests. You also trigger the settlement rescue mission on the same cycle if you don't have one started.

If you want a specific type/color of freighter, your best bet is to start getting your portal codes and visit The NMS Coordinate Exchange. Their database is up to date, searchable, and pretty active with new posts. For instance, if I want a max sized "star destroyer" type, I'd search for "freighter", "resurgent", and whatever color I like. That should give me some coordinates to portal to. (Also, watch what galaxy the coords link to, you're still in "Euclid" if you haven't been to the center of the galaxy). I portal to those coords, visit the station, then warp to the nearest system and visit its station. That lets me set up a teleport route, so that all 5 of my jumps for the trigger are all INTO the system with the freighter I'm hunting. I can't accidentally trigger a battle in some other system I was just warping into to get my count up.

Cycle is 3 hours straight of gameplay + 5 warps. Cycle restarts if you log in or out. Paused time doesn't count. Space station missions are a good way to burn a few hours of gameplay, just avoid the ones that require you to change systems.

It's important also to note, each system only has ONE model of capital freighter. So if you don't see one that you like, you need to try a different system.

Actually I been told its 3 hours of gameplay, breaks are permitted, it looks at your "played time" on your save I'm guessing. 3 hours since the last time you had one. Bascially I am guessing it records when you talked to the captain of the last one in your save file, then add's 3 hours to that.

Your guess is 100% correct (except you don't actually need to talk to the captain).

The save file has two values that it stores. "TimeLastSpaceBattle" holds the time when you had your last space rescue battle, and "WarpsLastSpaceBattle" holds what hyperjump number your jump before that battle was. In both cases, triggering it again just involves doing some math with those two values.

They tend to appear more often in three star (wealthy) systems. It's never taken me very long to find one.

Every single inhabited system has one (and only one) capital freighter, regardless of wealth. Wealth only matters for what class of that freighter is when it spawns.

I just finally got an acceptable capital freighter on my Expedition 7 save. It was the 7th "Space Rescue" of the save. Of the first 6 rescues, 5 were Sentinel family, only one of which was class-A/S. I don't much like the Sentinel family of capital freighters because of that stupid antenna tower that is right out of the hanger launch tubes.

The other was a Venator family, but only C-class.

This one, on my 7th rescue, was class S and a Venator. I'd expanded my starting freighter's inventory so much that the Venator trade-up only cost me 13 million units.

No, you cannot upgrade the class of your freighter. If you want a better one, you need to trade the one you have for the better one.

finally claimed my first S class in a tier 2 economy system. apparently beat the odds at 2%. It's one of those sentinel types that Jaggid mentioned.

In a tier 2 economy it's actually only 1%, 2% is the weighting on a high wealth (tier 3) system.
Congratulations on having some good luck!

When you're pulsing in system and freighters warp in, do they spawn as different classes, or always the same class as initially? Never paid any attention.

I generally just take the first crap box freighter offered for storage till I can afford to buy a better one.
