Best exocraft for exploring?
Looking for one that is fast but also can handle basically any terrain, was eyeing that hover bike/car like thing.. Nomad I think? as since it lacks wheels it can prob get over anything.

Hoverbike is the best all around as it can go across the surface of water and easily travels up sheer vertical cliffs. And yes, that's the Nomad.

My favorite is the Roamer (the car), but it can't do either of those things which the hoverbike can.

I use all of the exocraft in my game, other than the Colossus (The giant truck thing), but the Nomad is always the first one I get upgraded and fit with all the scanners, etc.

Edit: I should add, I don't think any of them are all that good 'for exploring' though. compared to being on foot, because you can't use your analysis visor when in an exocraft.

Nomad (hover bike) is the go to for basic run around and with the increased slots after Waypoint update there is no disadvantage.
I have used all the exocraft vehicles, but I use the Nomad most frequently. With some S-class upgrades, the Nomad can go fairly fast. It's also a lot of fun on low-gravity planets.

With the extra capacity given in 4.0, the Colossus has come of its own for mining, just go crazy with the upgraded exocraft mining beam on everything you see and reap the whirlwind.

If a objective is gonna take longer than 5 minutes to get there in the exocraft I just take my spaceship instead. It gets there in seconds and the lift off fuel is super easy to make.

Agree; Nomad is the overall most versatile. However, if Mods are your thing then the Minotaur becomes a beast.

I can see that. If I ever played a game where I didn't set up industrial (hotspot) bases for my most used resources, I could see using the Colossus more since 4.0.

I just always have bases producing those resources long before I ever would have all the nanites to get around to upgrading the Colossus' mining ability and at that point the amount of mining beam activity I ever need to do is small scale, except for Ferrite Dust, which the Starship is still just way better at than the Colossus.

With the increased slots they've destroyed the difference between the exocraft so the bike or the hovercraft are the go to.

I always felt that not being able to scan while in vehicles or riding a creature kind of makes them pointless. Its also kind of funny with the vehicles because they have all of these advanced scanners for finding ancient sites and trading posts but no regular scanner

when i was first playing and doing the base building quest, i learned real quickly to take my starship anywhere... especially for the timed exocraft missions where you have to get to some POI in a few minutes...

i mainly remember my first exocraft missions having destination on the other side of a large body of water and me having only the roamer... after driving up and down the coast for a bit, not finding any way across, and seeing the timer about to run out, i definitely called my starship and used it from then on... the exocraft missions, like numerous others, are ok but certainly not well implemented...

NPC tells me to get to some terminal to get a message from their family? starship it is!
NPC tells me to go to some location to get credits he's hacked for me? starship it is!

not to also mention that you have to jump out to harvest things like storm crystals, sodium/oxygen flowers, gravitino balls, etc... even the knowledge stones... such a PITA having to jump out so often... they never heard of drive up services? i mean :steamfacepalm:

You can harvest storm crystals from inside the minotaur. That's how I always gather them. Why waste hazard protection batteries. It also gets you from crystal to crystal faster, once you get good at actually controlling the thing. LOL

i haven't had any luck harvesting storm crystals from within the Minotaur... maybe 1st person vs 3rd person is the difference? idk... never really tried...

generally speaking, when i go storm crystal harvesting, i've built up all of my environment upgrades so i can just wander about in storms without fear of damage... the upgrades and plenty of batteries... i just love caves loaded with stalactites and stalagmites :steamhappy: :steamhappy: :steammocking:

It's worth mentioning that since the supercharged slots got added you can really get some good speed out of them. Even the colossus isn't bad! I'm actually outrunning the terrain generation in the roamer.... I have to slow down so my PC can catch up.

I prefer the Minotaur for all exploration. Environmental immunity. It traverses all terrain types and is pretty fast as it flies through the air.
