My favorite is the Roamer (the car), but it can't do either of those things which the hoverbike can.
I use all of the exocraft in my game, other than the Colossus (The giant truck thing), but the Nomad is always the first one I get upgraded and fit with all the scanners, etc.
Edit: I should add, I don't think any of them are all that good 'for exploring' though. compared to being on foot, because you can't use your analysis visor when in an exocraft.
With the extra capacity given in 4.0, the Colossus has come of its own for mining, just go crazy with the upgraded exocraft mining beam on everything you see and reap the whirlwind.
I can see that. If I ever played a game where I didn't set up industrial (hotspot) bases for my most used resources, I could see using the Colossus more since 4.0.
I just always have bases producing those resources long before I ever would have all the nanites to get around to upgrading the Colossus' mining ability and at that point the amount of mining beam activity I ever need to do is small scale, except for Ferrite Dust, which the Starship is still just way better at than the Colossus.
i mainly remember my first exocraft missions having destination on the other side of a large body of water and me having only the roamer... after driving up and down the coast for a bit, not finding any way across, and seeing the timer about to run out, i definitely called my starship and used it from then on... the exocraft missions, like numerous others, are ok but certainly not well implemented...
NPC tells me to get to some terminal to get a message from their family? starship it is!
NPC tells me to go to some location to get credits he's hacked for me? starship it is!
generally speaking, when i go storm crystal harvesting, i've built up all of my environment upgrades so i can just wander about in storms without fear of damage... the upgrades and plenty of batteries... i just love caves loaded with stalactites and stalagmites
