What's this about a "Galactic Hub" I hear?

"The Galactic Hub Project, generally referred to just as the Galactic Hub, is one of the largest and oldest civilizations in No Man's Sky. The core focus of the Galactic Hub is exploration and documentation, but the civilization also offers extensive multiplayer support, economic interactions, competitive PVP events, player-made content such as bases, and more. Members of the Galactic Hub are known as Interlopers, an adoption of possibly-insulting, often-used Vy'keen terminology.

The Galactic Hub officially occupies 11 regions: The Arm of Vezitinen and 10 surrounding regions. Inside these 11 regions, Galactic Hub Naming Guidelines are considered mandatory. Individual players and sovereign civilizations also occupy the space around the Galactic Hub, known as the Hubble Zone (which includes the "Huburbs").

Yeah, I'm still not clear on it. It sounds like something you have to JOIN, but they describe it as a location you go to. So I'm confused.

I play single player so I guess it's not something I would encounter?

The Galactic Hub acts as a hotspot where lots of players colonize, so if you were to go to the hub you would encounter several systems inhabited with player bases which you could visit.

Awesome, that Reddit thread helped a lot. So it started organically as a place players collectively migrated to, and then grew into something that even HG now recognizes as canon!!! That's really, really cool.

So it sounds like I can eventually visit there and participate, but it doesn't commit me to sticking with multiplayer. Sounds good.
