It's not only about running the game but also checking if it's worth of spending so much money.
Kyle Axington May 7, 2016 @ 8:13pm
You have a f2p 2 hours. If you don't like it get a refund.
Mr Magoo May 7, 2016 @ 8:14pm
1. you're a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiot and you just want to play the game for free for awhile.

2. Free to Play weekends will almost never happen for indie games especially games like No Man's Sky, the game is fairly cheap and steam has a refund system where if you play less than 2 hours and haven't owned a game for 2 weeks you can refund it so there is zero risk of losing money if you don't enjoy it.
Alcratz May 7, 2016 @ 8:50pm
if you pre-purchase the game, you can use the pre-purchase ship to skip the early progression and see if the experience/performance is to your liking. youll probably be able to squeeze a good amount of activity within 2 hours this way, so youll be able to make a decent decision of whether or not your $60 will stay in HGs pockets

if you suddenly realize youve been playing for 8 hours, chances are you like the game enough to keep it
refund policy is two hours...will take about 2 minutes to know if you can run it

Will almost never... you do realize that your own answer implies that it can happen... DO YOU???... <sigh> :steamfacepalm:
And what does it even mean "games especially games like No Man's Sky" ??? What?! NMS is one of the kind you idiot so far there was no OTHER games like NMS.

the game is fairly cheap
I can buy 2 AAA titles with 60 euro. Fairly cheap for steam standards in like 35 euro :steamfacepalm:

Right... you do realize that in this game you need different computing power when on small planet and different when on very huge planet? Sure in 2 hours you can learn something but you can't test your gaming rig properly. For that you would need to play this game a bit longer and travel trough various planets to know for sure that PC can handle the game.

I don't know what it is with this stupid steam community where everyone behave like they have some brain fart and undermine everything what other person says.

Steam community in a nutshell.

No Mans Sky is a sandbox that is (ALMOST) a single player game (You have One out of 18,000,000,000 if not more chances to find another player) and its a indie game. The devs would lose so much money from putting it up for free even for a day and steam wouldn't allow it, most games that get free weekends are all online games that have been out for a long time and could use a boost in players or devs do it when they put out new DLC, No Man's Sky fits almost none of these things and won't ever, also if 60 Euro is more than average price for games for you then you should get a job or get off steam if you're too young to get a job, I am not calling you dumb for wanting a free weekend its kinda understandable because who doesn't like free stuff, but logiclly it shouldn't and won't happen.
Gnollmar May 8, 2016 @ 3:08am
A free weekend sounds like a nice idea for when the game has been out for a couple months ^^ To all those saying "steam refunds withing 2 hours played" crap etc ... I bet not even one of you has ever refunded a game. Endnote: Its far from as easy as you think, and most times you dont even get a refund.

If someone comes with a suggestion, instead of just spamming crap, say why you think it should/shouldnt happen!

Personally, I think a free weekend will make it a higher posibility to find other players planets, which in itself would bring more people into the game. Also, its a sandbox game, so it would lose nothing from a free weekend. On the other hand, people would buy it to continue on their work ;)

You must be retarded, I've used the refund system about 10 different times and it works flawlessly, you get your money back in about a day or two almost everytime.

Also they are indie devs, a free weekend even a month after launch will make them lose a decent ammount of profit.

All you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are just kids with no money or adults with no jobs who cannot buy a game for only 60 dollars. This isn't some big company with 100s of devs this is just 10 devs in a small building making a game that wasn't even planned, it was just a concept that they slowly started working on intill it became a full thing, give the damn devs the money they deserve for this huge amazing game they made and spent years of their lives making.

I know what NMS is. So?

The devs would lose so much money from putting it up for free even for a day
What?:steamfacepalm: If NMS is a crap game they will lose money anyway BECASUE YOU CAN REFUND and IF game is good then free weekend or open beta trial will only help them convince those who don;t know if they like this game after X amount of time.

steam wouldn't allow it
Wouldn't allow what? There are other games on steam with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ f2p weekends (Ghost is the shell p2p game had one few days ago) not to mention Early Access where you can play games when they are not even half done so tell me what steam wouldn't allow?

most games that get free weekends are all online games that have been out for a long time and could use a boost in players or devs do it when they put out new DLC,
Again "most games".... your own words imply that other games get these "free weekends". DO YOU think when you post something?
FYII most of game outside of steam have open betas all the time not to mention that there was time when every effing game had DEMO ver. which any1 could play to test the game.

No Man's Sky fits almost none of these things and won't ever
Do you have some disco ball which tells you what will be in the future or you just pull bs out of your arse?
There are games which still are in early access and have f2p events.

also if 60 Euro is more than average price for games for
Average steam prices is 49.99 so 59.99 is CLEARLY above average you ... ehh w/e :steamfacepalm:

you then you should get a job or get off steam if you're too young to get a job
First of all you are an ignorant.
Secondly just because one have money it doesn't mean that he should spend money and count only on refunds. 2h is not enough to know game big as NMS.
Thirdly you don't go to store buy ♥♥♥♥ loads of clothes and then try them in your house YOU try them before you buy them = logic.

I am not calling you dumb for wanting a free weekend its kinda understandable because who doesn't like free stuff, but logiclly it shouldn't and won't happen.
"you're a ♥♥♥♥ing idiot and you just want to play the game for free for awhile."

Come again?

First of all you fail to comprehend logic.
Secondly, logicaly it's imperative to promote your product in any possible way to make customer buy that product... that's what for demo ver., beta's, f2p weekens, early access are. Only one who doesn't want to promote their game via fp2 wekeend or demo is the one who KNOWS that his game is ♥♥♥♥ so do you imply that NMS is ♥♥♥♥? Becaue if not then i don;t see any sense behind your rant @ f2p weekend for this game.

You do realize that there is difference in countrie and their money values and salary??? OR you are just dumb and ingornat to the point where you see only your own "reality and truth" ???

I'm sure there will be a f2p weekend for NMS, but we're talking about a long long time after release...there's just no real imperative for Hello Games to make it happen. I mean, could it help drum up some more sales? Yeah, probably, but it's already selling well without it and there's still a lot we don't know about it...just wait till it gets released and all the streams start and the reviews start rolling in, and it will sell even more.

So we get that a f2p weekend would be awesome for the consumers, but what exactly is the incentive for the people putting out the game? They have more positive buzz than they had ever hoped for, so what else is in it for them?

I'd reply to this post, but from the looks of it the author would just rudely pick apart the entire thing and criticize every word of it, so I'll pass.

You just did and i would probably do that if you were insulting me with your firsts words as a "argument" ;)

PS. FYII that picking apart is called "anwering to other person arguments" ;)

They could gain more positive image and show people that they care about players. They sell their game above steam avarage and wayyy above avarage prices in Europe so i would expect them to extend their hand to players and show them that they aren't just grabbing their moneyz with marketing videos shown us by IGN ;)

Depending on whether the steam version has DRM which I suspect it doesn't as why bother making one version with and one without. It may never happen as it would be like giving free versions of the game away.
