At a conference the art director for No Man's Sky joked about how sometimes simple changes caused mistakes like a planet full of trees, and how it would destroy the frame rate, so I don't think we're going to see that sort of thing for performance reasons.

I did a YouTube video on this, there are a few planets which contains Forests that we've seen so far - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8FQV_xzPcY

Feel free to ignore my poor narration, I'm new to Youtubing :)

02:24 is the slideshow of the planets - Spekira II looks to be good for forests.

Don't forget though there has to space for the player to land.

A planet full of trees would kill the framerate, but not a gigantic area :dswilson:

Yeah, I'm sure we're going to see forests, just not a "forest planet". Not that it would be difficult to plop a tree down every X meters, but they like to be a bit more detailed and less random than that.

I think he meant a planet that was literally nothing but trees, with no ground to speak of.

As i understand you will see very strange and unbalievable planets with lush enviroments and even more strange to centre of universe.

And klingon's/Romulans?
GhostByte Apr 24, 2016 @ 5:33pm
it would work to have a planet full of forests cause you are not seeing all the trees at the sametime which would kill the framerate. It also depends on how close together the trees are
GhostByte Apr 24, 2016 @ 5:34pm
no klingons just borg lol

Even on the super lush planets the trees weren't big at all and it was mostly grass. Is there any info or videos of large forests or jungles? Pics below is what i mean.

Do you think there would be planets with that level of forest density? I want to get lost in a forest and not know where i am and just trek it for hours, i feel it would make immersion so much greater.

if large forests like that or even similar to that don't exist i'll be pretty bummed tbh.

Edit: I think i worded it incorrectly, i don't necessarily mean i want to see an entire planet that is nothing but massive lush forest. However i really want to see forests that are large enough, and with big enough trees that i can't see anything but more forest when i'm inside it. Because in allot of the videos when they were flying over the lush planets there never seemed to be any large forests, just small clumps of trees.
there will be something like that , check it out :D
