Could THIS be the most GORGEOUS planet in NMS?
70+ hours in and I found what could quite possible be the single most beautiful planet/moon in NMS. I uploaded a video on youtube. Have any of you ever found anything more beautiful than this? Please upload screenshots or a link to a video of your beautiful planet find

I dont understand any of you. All these screenshots look the same.

There's nothing unique about any of the worlds generated in NMS.

All of the zinc plants are the same, all of the plutonium plants are the same. Every world's game assets are the same. IDENTICAL. All shelters, all ruins, everything is the same. All ships, aliens, all caves, everything is identical as the next. THe colors change, but the overall remaining left over is the same.

Grass doesn't have a different "texture". They are all the same, just a different color. How someone can want it so bad that they actually can see a different "texture" to grass, is beyond me...

Definitely the previous guy who says "The eye sees what it wants to see" is incredibly accurate for this guy's commentary in this video.

He wants this game to be unique so bad, that he sees it that way. Eventhough the rest of the world sees what is REALLY THERE, which is literally nothing.

This was my most anticipated game for years, and It's a complete and utter dissapointment.

What is there to understand or not? You don't see the appeal, you don't see the beauty, that's fine. Honestly, what do you expect anyone to tell you? Taste is subjective, there's literally no answer we can give you other than "we like it".

Here's the planet I am on now, it has the red grass we have seen before with vast oceans. It rains nonstop, never ends. Actually about to take off and go to my next planet, all done here.

I'm actually on a planet right now that I almost passed up. 3 planet system, first planet was an irradiated hellhole with tons of agressive wildlife. (Actually classified as "Polluted")

The second was listed as a "Dead World" and the description fit. Nothing there but rock. Worse still it generated with terrain glitches that would cause you to fall into the void. I came very close to that hapenning, but had the presence of mind to jetpack in the correct direction and made it back to my ship in time. (I renamed it with a caution flag for other travellers.) The last planet was really far away from the others and I almost didn't bother going to it, but BOY am I glad I did.

I won't spoil it until I can get some video up, but I renamed the planet Elysium, after the Elysian Fields, which was the Ancient Greek concept of Heaven. This place is just gorgeous.

I'll put some video up as soon as I can.

Looks almost the same as my starter planet. After seeing hours of streams, playing for 30 hours or so, and looking at peoples screens here on steam, I can say for sure, your planet is nothing special. Neither one of them does.

It would be amazing to explore another world where a parent planet was in the horizon (like Saturn's moon Titan!!!)

Have you seen the movie "Melancholia"? Try not to do research on it.. just find a copy and see it.

So unique OMG I swear it isn't an rng asset swap. Wow. I can't believe how awesome it is. It's like a computer made it from a pool of pre-designed assets. But better somehow.

I truly am not trying to argue, but actually this is half true and half inaccurate.

Things that are very visibly the same through reuse, or only minimal recombination:

  • Dwellings/shelters
  • Ships
  • NPCs
  • Stalactites
  • Certain flora
  • Space stations
  • The generic grass texture
  • Several basic creature skelleton shapes (not necessarily size, proportion, etc. of each portion of said skelletion however.)
  • Individual weather types and hazard types
  • Naturally occuring isotope and mineral deposits/crystals.

Things which differ considerably, but with a degree of randomness via procedural generation which also guarantees instances of stark similarities, in addition to occasional VAST differences:

  • Actual planet terrain and layout including elevation variations and flatness vs mountainousness. (I've had planets with MASSIVE mountain ranges, so high you can no longer see the ground at all, rich with RIDICULOUSLY maze like cave networks from top to bottom - for what has to be many many miles, perhaps a hundred or more in fact. I spent hours entering at the top of a mountain range cave and descending... when I got to the bottom cave exit, I could no longer see the peak when looking up lol.)
  • Locations of objects/NPCs, distributions of types of structures.
  • The specific degree, severity, and combination of weather and hazard types per planet
  • Exact shape, components, and appearance of larger flora (trees etc. - have yet to see a tree exactly repeated on any planet in my game so far.)
  • Exact shape, appearance, colors, characteristics, locomotion, and asset makeup of creatures.
  • Exact combination of upgrades, parts, and inventory slots on ships and multi-tools.
  • Probability and distribution of land vs water, as well as the type of terrain and type of water (which textures, colors, etc. and the characteristics likely to be found in worlds where some dominate over others and vice versa.)
  • Some medium sized flora can radically differ (just when I thought all cacti looking plants would be similar, the game started switching things up and giving me planets with very weird combinations of parts.)
  • Atmospheric/sky color (if any - many moons are just blank views out into the dark sky and twinkling stars - one of my favorites)
  • Abundance, specific shape, and distribution of given naturally occuring isotope and mineral deposits and crystals, and which occur on which planet.
  • Global temperature ranges
  • Planet size.
  • Tiny flora that some may be calling grass, hence some saying there are different grass textures. In fact, there are many un-scannable, minute details that can be scattered throughout the landscape, from rocks, to tiny flora that are just eye candy. And these are indeed diverse and differ greatly from planet to planet.

So in combination, you end up with some great variety... for some people. That's the rub, really. It's not a question of whether there's diversity at all. It's a question of to what degree the diversity a given player experiences satisfies that player. That's going to differ from person to person. It's not an argument. It's just the nature of subjectivity. There are things we can factually quantify about the game, about devs' statements, whether they were true, etc. That's all well and good.

Whether the variety present individually is sufficient for one player or another, is not among those things though. That's within with sole purview of individual prerogative and subjective opinion and as another poster said, isn't something that can be dictated or answered for. It just is.

For me, the variety is amazing. For others, it's underwhelming. The almost literally 50/50 reviews seem to reflect that. I find it's best to simply let others have their opinions and retain civility in the process, rather than being dismayed when people like different things. It's inevitable. Just as there are 18 quintillion planets in this game and no one will ever see them all, there are nearly 8 billion people on this planet and within that population there are going to be massive differences in what passes for "good."

Accepting that makes life easier.

I appreciate the time you took to answer this. However, although very thoughtful, I found your answer to be a bit of a cop out.

#1 all the things you listed in your massive list of things that are different came down to only 3 things really, shape, size, and color. That's not enough to create a variety of worlds. All you are doing is recycling a few things over and over again to create 18 Q worlds that ultimately end up all being the same.

#2 to say that we all see things different, is true. However, there are some generally accepted things in life that we can assume are equal for almost everyone.

Ice cream is cold. Soup is hot. If you started eating hot soup, and saying to me "I love this cold soup!" I would just have to believe you are incapable of disserning temperature.

In this case, it's true that some people could be satisfied with what is being presented here, while others cannot. That's true. However, that doesn't change any of the actual facts.

What I would prefer is to hear you say "Yeah, this game doesn't have much to it compared to what was advertised, and discussed over the years, but I'm ok with that and I still like it".

That would be an intellectually honest answer.

But to say "this game has such depth and it's amazing how much variety there is and how much detail, and how many things I can do! I love this game!"

Well now that's totally and completely intellectually dishonest. Yes the "I love this game" part is true, but the embellishments made prior to that statement completely run against reality and what is actually being presented. There's no way around those facts.

I'm glad you were able to find a planet combination you thought was pretty. yay.

There's isn't actually that much to do, I mean you can pretty much rattle off every activity there is with a relatively short list. What matters is whether or not you find the available gameplay fun or not. The main draw for me is the exploration. Right now I am uncovering one of the languages of the alien species, looking for a cool multi-tool and ship that I like the look of and that has more slots for loot. When I get to a new planet I hunt for all the plants, rock types and animals to finish the catalogue for that planet, I look around for neat areas that are visually appealing and then I leave and move on to another planet.

If you find the variety lacking and the gameplay lackluster and boring after 10 hrs then that means there just isn't enough for you here. I do hope they add more content and stuff to do but for now I am not anywhere near done with the Atlas stuff (have not even found an anomoly or major thing connected to Atlas yet at all) and I am playing through the core of the game still.

I have not tried any of the other stuff like attacking large ships, getting involved in major space battles, pirating/attacking traders and other small craft, umm I am not actually entirely sure what all there is to do lol.
