What's beam intensifier for?

It says it sppeds up terrain desctruction but the multitool mining beam does nothing to the terrain... does it speed up resource collection like beam focus or someting else?

Terrain is the large clusters of ore, like hiridium pillars or gold deposits. "Resource rich" mods effect the stuff that you mine to deplete a circle, like plutonium, rocks, or plants.

You can use the grenade mods to blow apart terrain and dig your way out of a cave if you want.
