Do you name the species you discover?
Personally, I don't want to. As naming animals or plants after singers, actors, cartoon characters or using stupid names on purpose isn't lore-friendly I just upload them but leaving the random names which are scientific anyway (some sound Latin and realistic - German version).

I only manually name a few species after friends ("hey, the new species I will discover is you") but slightly adjusting the name so it sounds more scientific.

Nope. Never named a specie, planet, outpost or anything at all.

Named my home planet and system but aside from that nah, I like to keep everything sciency ;)

No, I only name systems and planets. Although I did see a really goofy looking species and named it Dorkasauras just for kicks.

I like give them drunken names

I leave the names alone as they are part of a universal taxonomy, and I have observed these creatures IRL and that's what they're named.

I name creatures but I name them with descriptors plus a shortened version of their original name.

Like "Emerald Orrmerc" or "Plated Takanoe" or "Razor-Backed Requusva".

"Lore friendly"?
We are explorers. In real life, if you find a new species, you get to name it whatever you want.

Yep, if they are unique looking. The giant flying dragon worms were named Draconis Flagellum and the giant two story tall mothman meat eating psycopath was named Mothmanicum Horrendous.

I name them if i think they are cool, both planets and animals. i dont name plants.

if it doesn't catch my attention, it doesn't get a special name.

ergico Aug 17, 2016 @ 3:16pm
I name System and planets only using latin/greek words depending on what I get inspired from: type of the first animal I meet, weather conditions, etc etc :)

Before game launched I created a spreadsheet to generate random names for planets and critters. When I need a new name for someting I just reload the spreadsheet and bam I got a new name. I am renaming everything I discover.

i only name planets with rare resources so i know which one had which resource when im in a system for a long time. Animals i only name if i can come up with one that seems fitting like (one I think i named the Great horned dodo, because thats exactly what it looked like, a large dodo with horns)

Lore friendly? The Lore is very thin.
I give planets informative names, for example "Albumen Galore" or "Toxic Emeril".

I would very quickly run out of names to give, so I let the name generator do their work :D
