100% completion of a full planet?
What are the "records"? that is the only thing that actually raises the percentage because I discovered like 20 animals and a bunch of places and it didn't even change the %

Each planet has a fixed number of different animal species, once you discover them all you'll get 100%, just scanning animals won't do it because you'll also scan animals of the same species which won't help (the game will tell you so).

Undiscovered animals on the planet

Unless you mean above the animal names, that's important places on the planet
if you scan, they'll appear as ''?'' in a green circle, go there, and you can name that place

No those end up being waypoints, I'm talking about on the discoveries tab inbetween way points and animals there are records and there will be names with green checks next to them or they wont have a check and look like "????????????????" what are those?

That's the first part of my message, it means that you haven't scanned that animal yet, and have to find it on the planet, it could be underwater or in caves as far as I know, haven't goten very far in the game yet.

You can also identify what look like rocks.

Basically, if you can get resources out of it (even if it doesn't run around), you can probably scan it.

Those metallic flowers? You can scan and name them, too.

Those records are animals. Down at the bottom is for all life-forms, including animals. So animals will be in both the "record" list and in the slots at the bottom.

You get 100% completion when you find at least 1 variety of each animal type on the planet. The ????? strings are there just as place-holders until it has a name to fill in for it.

Okay thanks that makes sense now. It wasn't making sense because I would have like 8 animals but only 4 under the records. I guess you can have each animal multiple times from variations. Hmm weird

My first completion of a planet took place when I finally looked up when something flew by and scanned it. So don't forget to look for "birds" or flying worms or whatever.

It's now 7 hours that I'm on my starting planet and I'm still missing 1 single creature entry... I scanned birds and have been even looking underground (no watter on my planet). No idea what I'm doing wrong...

I feel like they make 1 of the animals rare or something because I've always been short 1 to each time, hard to find the last one. Maybe try the other side of the planet xD

Try to look for flying animals. If you can't scan them in the air, shoot them down first.

I 100%'ed my starting planet.

You can't stay in one area, and it's really, really easy to find yourself doing laps through familiar terrain. Old POI's have a habit of resetting, and without a map, new POI's rapidly start to look like old ones, turning a lark for a critter an exercise in being completely lost with no reference.

I had one solution that ended out paying off: Just walk. I landed at a trade station, and I decided to simply keep going in a roughly straight line until I found the remaining 3 animals on the list, keeping my ship marker behind me.

Sure enough, I eventually did, after putting about 30min of distance between me and my ship. After that, it's a simple issue of finding a POI with a scanner (or a beacon), and finding the nearest outpost that will let you spend a bypass chip to summon my ride. Voila. Done with the newbie planet of perpetual acid rain, 200k richer, and no reason to hang around any longer!
