Are the view distance really that bad as people say?
Graphically it needs some work but great fps, alittle lag here and there but rare and the fxaa and smaax4 need alot of work. It looks alittle blutry
Just spend 3 hours in game, and it felt like 10 minutes. Wow. Where do I even begin?
Yes there is normal post launch issues, but for a day 1 release WOW. I am impressed. Smooth FPS (once changing fps cap after first launch,) and although there are flaws and imo the Anti Aliasing needs work (blurry edges) it is an incredible game, that runs fantastic, and there is so much depth to the world.
I have no idea what people mean by lack of "depth" if you play this game you will spend hours and hours just walking around the first few planets in awe. Now, ill list the pros and cons
Pros; Runs great,
fanastic concept,
design,
the procedural generated terrain is both varied and unique,
vast space,
Smart AI,
No loading screens,
Awe inspiring scale
Awesome ships
Relaxing, slight challenge (Maintaining Air support and RAD levels) while not being overly complex
Scenery
Sound design (animals sound different)
so so so much more that only 2.5 hours cannot even begin to scratch the surface.
+Promise of future FREE DLC and added content, meaning this game is basically still Alpha, and we will see vast improvements in all aspects, and many more features are on its way (basebuilding, Giant freighters....That are Drivable!)
Resource hunting/gathering is extremely rewarding, and although does take abit of time it is very easy and not a headache, as with most resource gathering tends to be.
Cons- At start up it is locked at 30 FPS until you go into graphics and change cap, which can tarnish the first perspective of the game
Slight lag here and there, but nothing too bad, especially considering day 1 release.
Blurry edges (Fxaa and Smaax4 need to be really worked on for a sharper, better image.)
FOV could be better, but its not nearly as bad as what i've seen in ps4 versions. I expect they will touch up on this aswell in the future)
Spaceship handling needs tweaking, can be very.. clunky at times, and space combat is extremely difficult.
And last but not least. Inventory. I feel asthough the actual space suit inventory needs to be signifigantly larger.
All in all, Worth the 60$ especially as its still a work in progress. Now, for my personal experience;
In the 2.5 hours, I've found an ocean planet with beautiful life, A rock planet that looked barren and desserted at first (even the flora/fauna detected level 0) and yet there is gold EVERYWHERE, along with other rare minerals. It is incredible, How even something that looks ugly and barren is actually flourishing. And then there was this amazing life teaming world where various sizes and types of animals roamed. It was incredible.
And dont even get me started on the cave systems. So cool, so beautful. Not exactly vast (that I have found atleast) but there is literal "depth" to the planets.
And thats my 2.5 hour in review :) I cannot do justice in describing the worlds and the feeling of seeing things nobody else has, or probably will. Simply, WOW.
HOWEVER there is alot of flaws. If you are wanting to play a polished game you'll have to wait a while. But if you get it with the intention of helping it get smoothed out + no real rush to play then I'd suggest getting it but ya. AMAZING GAME, just needs alot of touch ups and with added features soon there will be lots to do
