do they each need some inane entry on a database to be classed as in the game - no.

Observable universe, perhaps, but how much of the universe can we really see? 4%. We can observe 4% of the universe, and it's constantly expanding. When I said the universe, I meant the UNIVERSE. Not the observable universe :P

The universe is 14 billion years old.
we can see 13.8 billion years into it.

no dude, we can pretty much see the entire universe. the "non observable" universe is a thing we cant even understand because we dont know whats "out there" before it expands into that "there" ... do you get me ?

and that expansion factor is nothing, so i'll add another 5 zeros into that and still no where near to the number of possible deck of cards combination. and probably the universe will die before it expands enough to hold that many stars. (and it is going to die eventually as time runs out, or something mind boggling complicated like that, don't catch me on it).

That is not descriptive of the universe that we live in, at all.

1. Yes our universe is *roughly* 14 bil years old.
2. Yes we can see *roughly* almost 14bil years into it.

Everything after those two facts, I'm sorry to say, is incorrect (Lifting man is also incorrect with his 4% business. I'm not sure where he pulled that number, but there is zero agreement whatsoever as to how large the actual Universe is.) The only thing we know for certain is that we can see roughly 40bil light years away in any given direction, because that is how far light has traveled when you factor in the expansion of space since 13.8 billion years ago.

You see, expansion factor absolutely is not "nothing". The "non observable" universe is not something that we "can't even understand". The "non observable" universe is exactly like the universe we *can* see. Full of stars and all sorts of other mundane matter. We simply cannot see it because its light has not reached us yet (and yes, there are indeed stars beyond the limit of how far light can travel since the beginning of the universe, because expansion.) In fact, much (possibly most? again, we have no idea how large the universe actually is) of the universe will NEVER be visible by us, because it is distant enough from our reference that it is moving away from us faster than the speed of light (actually it is the space between us that is expanding faster than the speed of light, but the end result is the same).

Think about it logically, if the entire universe consisted of everything that we can currently see, that would put us in the exact center of the universe (because all the galaxies we can see do indeed go all the way out to that 40bil light year limit in every direction).... No. Just no.

You may want to watch some lectures from experts on the subject like Niel DeGrasse Tyson or Lawrence Krauss. They have many videos on Youtube, and I believe Lawrence Krauss gives an hour longish lecture on just exactly how and why space is expanding, and what is actually out there beyond our visible horizon.
