PSA: Getting Expedition 5 Redux done in 2hrs or Less
Xaine has put out a video guide on completing the expedition quickly with little to no fuss, especially useful for those (not me) with busy real world things to do

...and it will be very useful for players starting the expedition near the end date...just like last minute Xmas shopping :steamfacepalm:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUWQBP7xyiE
(don't forget to 'like' the vid if you find it useful)

NB. it's actually a step-by-step walkthru...just do as he does and 'you'll be fine'...wot could go wrong Lol

EDIT: Xaine has speedrun this in 58mins (savefile time)

I don't think I'd even enjoy myself if I tried to do a speed run, but I think it's a great thing for people who just want to get the unlocks for their main save.

1-2 hours impresses the heck out of me, regardless. It took me 16 and half hours total. I guess I lollygag.

I also enjoy the journey like Jaggid. Not against someone speed running it , but the whole point to me is to figure out things along the way. I have played the first bunch twice, so I kinda know what works and have no fear of the time limit.

I get a kick out of monitoring myself, and gently reminding myself this is not a new save, just an Expedition....when I start trying to play it as a regular save. Old habits die hard.

yes...it's not for everyone, but you know the threads WILL come (as we get closer to the end date) of players complaining about the limited time, impossible to find stuff etc...so this vid will get more important to some as the clock ticks down

i'm 14hrs into the expedition...and i haven't reached R1 yet Lol...and yes i'm luvin' it...(even though expd5 was/is my 2nd to least favourite)
i'm taking the scenic (off the beaten track) route and it's paying off...my first warp got me tall eggs!!!...go figure

PS. also found yellow 'ringer' for the radiant pillar while i was still driving the crappy explorer...took it as a sign from the RNGods as to wot a starter ship should be...so i had to buy it
(can't remember how-to add a picture...someone please)

talking of starter ships brought this to mind Lol

To include the glyphs in the lower left corner, use the Steam screenshot (not NMS). Default is set to F12

i'm still not through the expedition. however i only have 8 things to tick off the list.
a written guide of each expedition is what i'm looking for, i don't care for youtuber guides one bit.

wow, i found it just by looking at the map! no sign of any ships like that but have dropped a marker thanks
Guyver8 Nov 27, 2022 @ 8:07am
Lol cheers Geldric...now where did i leave my...

@NZ.Zer0; m8...i forgot...i'm running Gumsk's 'More Frequent Traders' mod (makes NPC pilots a bit more busy in the system), it might also nudge the system ship spawn pool...i've not noticed but that could just be cos i only go back to a system i know from another save for my guppy exotic and that's still there...i'll test it later today without the mod to see if both fighters are there
Jaggid Edje Nov 27, 2022 @ 8:13am
That mod (More Frequent Traders) doesn't change the ships in the system, nor the makeup of the first wave.

All it does is alter how quickly the waves come and go so that you don't have to spend as much time waiting around for them. If you find a ship while using the mod, it is definitely 'there' even without the mod....just could involve a lot more waiting.

One good thing about taking my time with this stuff is that i'm learning how to create food items and where to source the materials. i got rid the stuff given to me through expedition rewards after the first cake didn't go down well with Cronus. so now i'm gonna try it my own way. it's oddly enjoyable getting everything together on my own dime.
Jaggid Edje Nov 27, 2022 @ 2:45pm
@Xautos, just as an fyi, it's pure RNG how Cronus feels about the food you present to him, so if you'd have baked like 10-15 of the same exact type of cake, most likely he'd have loved one of them. That's probably the reason the expedition gave you enough of the sugar and flour and stuff to make multiple cakes.

If you (or anyone else) reading this actually enjoyed the cooking aspects of the expedition, there's a fantastic mod that greatly expands on Cronus and the cooking side of the game. One of my favorite mods due to the sheer uniqueness of it (and my own love of cooking).

i went out and sourced the materials, trying to find the sticky 'honey' was an issue as most animals on all the worlds i've visited were milk producers and the occasional egg producer. Ended up presenting a gooey chocolate cake and Cronus said it was a piece of art.

i used one of the guides to find a link to an NMS assistant website with what appears to be what cronus thinks of the end quality of the item, the chocolate cake said 5 stars, so i went for it. it was fun doing that as i never did that before.

@Jaggid Edje: just put that mod in my load (along with GPS) just before the expedition started...haven't got to the cooking yet...is it just me or has the quality of mods gone up recently?

@NZ.Zer0::...and guess wot happened as i was next at the station picking up missions
