Finding the expedition route...
So, I've done expeditions before, and in the past, if I selected the "Expedition Route" filter on the Galaxy map with the objective for the next rendezvous selected in my log, it pretty much pointed me along the right path to get there.

I'm doing Expedition 5 right now, it totally fails to do that. I got a golden 'line' on the galaxy map going out into space, and couldn't see any systems marked with the marker for the rendezvous point. I thought, no big deal, it might just be enough jumps away that I'm not seeing it yet.
After 3 long jumps and still not seeing it, I backtracked and spent a lot of time on the galaxy map doing concentric spheres to see if I could just find the system with the marker. I eventually did....in a totally different direction from where that 'golden line" was pointing me.

"Expedition route" filter isn't giving any indicator to go that way at all.

Given that some of the systems I went to along the 'wrong' route where discovered by other people, today, I don't think I'm the only one having this happen. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Or if there is any solution?

I didn't have that problem. It sounds like a nightmare. I'm playing on pc. I was shown the line from whichever current section to the following one, and one there after a few minutes the icon to show where to go would pop up

Sorry I can't help at all. The com stations you saw, I would imagine, are from going to neighboring planets to try to complete some if the steps

I'm just happy to know it's working for someone doing the expedition, so your reply is actually appreciated.

It worked for me for Rendezvous 1, just not for 2. I'm in the right system now, for 2, just doing some other stuff quick. Once I'm on to the next step, you're reply has me hopeful that it will work properly again for 3.

ProTip1: when you enter a new-to-you star system, always land at the space station and jump out of your ship if for no other reason than to add it to your list of known stations. then you can jump back in and fly on to where you were headed...

ProTip2: when you are doing an expedition and find yourself no longer on the expedition route, jump into a space station and teleport to one of your earlier space stations that is on the route... this is the fastest way back and really beats endless jumping when you have gone through a blackhole, used a portal, or had to do a milestone that required you to find undiscovered or abandoned star systems...

That happened to me on several of the expeditions. I think it is usually caused by the "rendezvous" mission getting unselected as your primary mission.

I usually fixed it by just going back to the Expedition log and re-selecting the mission for the rendezvous point that I was after... Make sure it's the last thing you click on before you exit the maps. I dunno if there's a bug with the menus or what...

If that didn't work then I went to the last rendezvous point, double checked the correct mission was selected again, then tried again.

Usually one of those two did the trick and I was back on route.
If all else fails, close game and reload. That solves any other lingering problems I've run into (with many different things, not just expedition routes).

the expedition routes are simple to follow. finding tall and creature eggs next to that in a galaxy where half the creatures produce milk of one kind or another, now that's a lot more difficult.

@Unlucky, thanks for the tips!

I did actually do both of those things and it wasn't helping for whatever reason for Rendezvous 2. It is now working as I would expect it to for Rendezvous 3 though, so....I don't know what to say about that 2nd one other than.....I went really, really far out of the way for a little while. :)

@wkitty42....I read your reply and for some reason it feels like you are speaking from experience. :)

unless you look in your pet registry and find that you already have such a pet ;)

yep... it is why i failed to complete Expedition 2: Beachhead in the allotted 6 weeks time when it first came around and i was maybe a two week old newbie... plus i waited 2 weeks before starting it because i wasn't sure i wanted to do it...

my biggest problem, at that time, was trying to figure out how to use the galaxy map to get away from the populous route to complete one particular milestone and then how to return to the expedition route... i spent my last two weeks of Exp2 trying to get back to the route because i never thought about teleporting... now, almost everything i do involves teleporting to some base or space station...

@wkitty42, he's talking about the expedition goal to collect the kinds of eggs that creatures who aren't tamed can give. The ones you use for cooking, not hatching. You can't get those from an existing pet.

The game asks for tall eggs, giant eggs and uh...forgot the other one. 3 kinds of eggs. And he's not wrong, the tall eggs are a real pain in the ____ to locate. I still haven't found any as of rendezvous 3.

OH Yeah! i had forgotten about those... yeah, there's a planet or two along the route where they are abundant... i don't recall all the specifics and would have to load my old save to maybe find them...

i do remember getting all of mine in one fell swoop by feeding a bunch of animals on one planet en mass... IIRC, the scanner even says they lay tall eggs...

i also remember landing on almost every single planet looking for them... until i found them, that is...

i'm not playing this year's redux expeditions, though, so that means even if i did go look at my old save, the redux changes may not match with how it was originally...

Even loading your old save wouldn't help, I don't think. It seems like they moved where the expedition happens from when it last run.

The Eggs you need come from those really tall, two legged, walking "raptor" things...you get one as a pet..

Finding way to actual rendezvous place I found difficult as on landing and using the scanner it said it was too far to calculate! This plus all the idiots placing bases, beacons, message orbs, etc makes for hard work!
Jaggid Edje Nov 26, 2022 @ 6:14am
@Merlin69, when it says the locations is too far when using the Scanner, it still tells you what direction to go. If you rotate, when you aren't facing close to the right way, it will still flash the arrows on the left or right side of the scanner to tell you to turn, even when the distance is too great for it to give you the distance information.

Dropping you 'too far' from the desired location is pretty normal in the expeditions, at least all of the more recent ones.

Just an FYI, for when you experience that again.
