No Mans Sky has far more content and is a lot less buggy, Astroneer is ok but its still very limited at this time and has a nasty bug where vehicles fall through the ground.

I'd go No mans sky its got far more content and workshop as well.

Have both and they are good games, but NMS is far superior in both games current form.
I pre-ordered No Man's Sky (NMS) and bought Astroneer in early EA. I seldom play Astroneer now; NMS occupies what time I can set aside. It depends on personal taste. A few of the many differences:
  • NMS has 18 quintillion places to visit, with differences (permutations, some would say) at each system or world
  • Astroneer has a more "plastic" look to figures and equipment whereas NMS has more detailed nuances to them
  • NMS has a more robust resources system, but some dislike that
  • NMS has a deep lore; Astroneer does not
  • To me, Astroneer seems more focused on building things and products than NMS, though NMS did add more with the past two updates.
  • NMS has a Creative mode where you can construct Bases to your heart's content and have zero risk from hazards plus all no money ("unit") costs.

18 QUINTILLION!?!

confirmed..... :steamhappy: ... ;-)
I've lost track of the amount of distinct biomes in NMS, i think its about 20. This is still considerably more than other similar games.

Space engineers might be worth looking at as well. You load scenario's though rather than a fixed game world, so not sure how that works (only played it about 20 mins during free weekend, didnt catch my interest).

But they all look similar :lunar2019laughingpig:
With Astroneer you'll feel nothing but pain and misery, but if that's your thing, go for it. The diversity in Astroneer lies in how much the few planets there are have been hollowed out, otherwise they're all pretty much the same. There's no real exploration and there are no real challenges. It's; collect - research - build, rinse and repeat.

Then there are the seemingly countless bugs, and that with the game at release. Resources will vanish, multiplayer desyncs, your vehicles will sink into the ground, the game crashes often, and so on. Occasionally you'll be launched into space while mining or just walking around, for no apparent reason.

When the game was pushed to 1.0, lots of promised content was canceled. Content that could otherwise have made the game feel more enjoyable to play and not quite as empty.

NMS has everything and more. Lots of exploration, challenges and building. You'll face hazardous environments, enemies and other lifeforms throughout the several galaxies there are, all filled with solar systems and planets you can visit.

Yes, there are bugs in NMS, but they're minor and usually you can work around them.

The real question is, what do you have time for? NMS you can play for weeks and even months, while Astroneer is more of an afternoon thing.

One plus for Astroneer; it does have a flattening tool for leveling the ground, which NMS really could use.

* Space Engineers is more of a resource gathering and management game, than it is an exploration game. But, spaceships are not predesigned as in Astroneer and NMS, and can even be programed to do certain tasks, which in itself can be quite fun, provided you know how to program.

Pigsie!
NMS has creatures & NPCs. (NPCs don't move much).
NMS has water, oceans & lakes. You can swim or use an exocraft to explore on the surface or underwater.
NMS also has space stations, some buildings & ruins on planet surfaces and underwater.
the online is not working.. thats all i gotta say

{Assuming NMS}
It works for most of us, tho limited and most do not care to play MP, apparently.
Really?? So I've seen astroneer played on youtube, I was able to watch about 10 minutes of it and that's cos the youtuber is a friend of mine. It's like going from saturday morning cartoons (astroneer) to Sunday night movie of the week (nms) I find it basic and silly. (astroneer that is)
I tried NMS when it first came out and liked it, and then tried Astroneer after all the bad press HG got. I played Astroneer for a few hours and never went back. I later came back to NMS and stuck around. For me, NMS is much better.
NMS by far. Read my review to figure out why
