Exterior stairs/ramp?

So I have been making a base out of the large rooms as I like the look of them, but one thing that annoyed me was what seemed like a lack of exterior stairs/ramp to get in the door. Ultimately I ended up using the terrain manipulator to build a makeshift ramp in but it looked horrible.

After playing for a bit and getting a few more blueprints I ended up stumbling on something that actually snapped to the exterior of my base to get into the door, the only problem was a bit of terrain was sticking out of the middle of the stairs (I believe it was a metal ramp I made but looks like stairs), so I decided to remove it the next day using the method of placing the floors to flatten the ground, after doing that and removing the floor after, I went back to try and place what i thought was the metal ramp but it no longer snaps.

Am I picking the correct pieces to make the exterior stairs/ramp and why isn't it snapping anymore?

Just unlocked the blueprint for the access ramp. All good now!
